The purpose of designating a World Heritage site is preservation and protection. We would like to return the island to the condition it originally was by forbidding the entry of the public.

The only problem is that Okinoshima has been registered by UNESCO as a cultural site, not a natural site or a mixed site. If human beings can no longer benefit culturally from this site because it's off limits, it should either lose it's status or be reclassified (if it still meets the criteria).

If it was down to the ecology being under threat; fair do. But if it's down to religion; that's one to be debated.

Just off limits to non shrine persons. THAT won't be abused, no siree
