Utter nonsense! The economy is only improving for those in the stock markets. Employment is not improving. Wages are not improving. Taxes collection and debt collection have not improved. It is likely that the drop in suicides is attributable to something entirely different.

But these useless politicians in Japan will take credit for the sun rising.

No idea of the verity of the politician's claims, but it still seems like an awful lot of suicide deaths, and at 3x or more than other countries (like the US which has had a far far worse economy for far longer) Something which needs serious improvement. Further, combined with stats about things like not only do ppl not have kids or marry much anymore, but can't even have sex or talk to a member of the opposite sex, there is a big problem about trying to live life here. 9% is a big percent, but at those numbers of suicides, it needs to be 9% a year for four or five years straight before you can say it is anything other than a blip.

as an aside, tkoind's last line is very funny, considering the motto of the country- land of the rising sun- and how that motto came to be! Do you know it?
