The wage gap between men and women is an economic and financial problem, and the prime minister has a sense of crisis about it.

A government official. Japan is considering requiring companies' annual reports to disclose average wages by gender and the ratio of female managers, said two people with direct knowledge of the matter, as it seeks to close the pay gap between men and women.

from my point of view there should be no difference for salary man or woman-if they do same job and producing same profit for company.

here i employ two women and salaries are equal to men.but yes same duties, same workload...not good for everyone...

What does it mean "having a sense of crisis about it"? that he is thinking about making an statement addressing the intention to eventually put forward a committee in charge of recommending if something should be said about it?

Companies will always find ways to pay females less: they go home early, they can take days off when period pain is too much, they get married and quit soon after, they aren't salesmen… etc.

That wage gap is just nothing compared to the real gap, namely the income gap between almost all and the very few who cashed in all the tons of printed money during the last decades.

Yeah, a sense of crisis that "women have the gall to get uppity about it and not know their place", for sure. Is it any wonder why Japan ranks so poorly on gender equality when they fail to do anything beyond "thinking" (and not even saying what said thoughts are) about it?
