There might be “budgetary limits” to planting more trees for shade, but if they were to stop chopping off every limb of every municipal tree at the beginning of summer, they could save money on tree “maintenance” and still have more shade than they do now.

How about swapping the three piece suits, neckties and dress shoes for more appropriate wear? Short pants, open necked shirts and sandals?

Those parasols are a danger on the crowded sidewalks and walkways. The pointed ends are at my eye level and most everyone touting them are completely unaware of the surrounding people such as my precious self. Plus, the carrier takes up too much space on the crowded walking areas. Plus, really, MEN with PARASOLS? Get a summer hat, people. Much more attractive, not dangerous to those around you, and your left arm is free to text while walking.

It doesn’t cost much to plant trees and the benefits are immense.
And if we are to focus on the cost, the parasol idea is idiotic in the extreme. It is way cheaperfor cities to plant some trees than it is for millions of people to buy parasols that they have to carry around with them whenever they walk down the street. Not to mention way more convenient for everyone (except of course for bureaucrats like the one quoted who find it easier to make ludicrous excuses rather than doing actual work to improve the situation).
