Unless, of course, their former colleagues find them before the money can be spent. Hopefully the next-of-kin or the estate will find a good use for the money.

This may be a risk, but the benefit of reforming former criminals and giving a second chance to people with a genuine desire to abandon that life are not minor, I hope this have positive results both for the former gangsters and society.
