But he ran as a Republican. They will have free reign. Just look at who he is making as his team. Trump has no idea how to run a country. These are the dregs that will be making the decisions. http://www.alternet.org/election-2016/ultimate-inside-job-donald-trumps-transition-team-sordid-new-swamp-lobbyists-donors http://www.alternet.org/news-amp-politics/chomsky-trumps-win-puts-govt-hands-most-dangerous-organization-world-history http://www.alternet.org/election-2016/steve-bannon-runs-anti-semitic-website-misogynist-and-will-be-one-donald-trumps-senior

OMG OMG a pro-Trump article in JT!!!

But he ran as a Republican.

He would have run as a democrat or an independent if the thought that would have gotten him into office. But that is a given, only common people believe in political parties, politicians choose parties like they choose a tie, and can discard them just as quickly. Elizabeth Warren ran as a democrat to win her senate seat, even though she was a republican all of her life. Ironic that the left sees her as it's new champion, not knowing that she would dump them in a heartbeat if doing so would keep her in office.

But I agree that with less strings, he will be free to do more.

The biggest difference is the money it cost to get elected. Hillary spent more than $150,000,000 on ads, while Trump spent only $7 million. Hillary spent $22,000,000 in Florida, Trump spent $290,000 (and Hillary still lost Florida). If anyone thinks the race was really close, when you consider how much Hillary spent, and how little Trump spent, Trump did remarkably well, to say the least. In financial terms, Trump won in an unprecedented landslide.

But when you spend hundreds of millions of dollars for ads, you need to raise hundreds of millions of dollars in contributions. And to get that money, you need to give something in return for it. Much of Hillary's money (and Obama's) came from Wall Street. It is no small wonder why no one on Wall Street was punished for their parts in the financial crisis, but they paid their millions, and in return they were left alone.

Hillary and Bill have always been masters of "pay to play" in politics. What is funny is that since Hillary lost, those who paid now have to walk away with empty hands. Since Trump was not so dependent on mega-donors (who need mega-favors in return), he will in fact have freer rein to do what he wants to do.

I hope he accomplishes some good big things. The possibility is definitely there.

She had no interest in running for Senate until Obama snubbed her as the head of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, an agency she helped establish. I don't care if she used to be a Republican as long as she fights greed and corruption. She's one of the few politicians on either side that does, and you're right, she probably would change in a heartbeat if the Republicans actually became the party of the people and not the rich.

@Strangerland. Thumbs up for the fair comment.

He'll accomplsih big things, no doubt. the question is: will they be good things?

cracaphat: JT has been pro-Trump from time.

If JT conforms to the same duty cycle of 9-negative-to-1-positive-or-neutral w.r.t. Trump, as they probably do since their political articles seem mostly purchased from news agencies, I guess it's not surprising I missed those times JT was positive on Trump.

Even less surprising if they were all during primary season, when Trump was one of the Pied Piper candidates the DNC and/or Hillary campaign selected to have the media promote, on the theory that if one of the Pied Pipers won in the primary they'd be a cinch to beat in the general, as opposed to the 'Establishment' Republican candidates like Jeb Bush, etc. Bet they're still kicking themselves over that one!

It seems likely that over the following year JT will follow the example of the establishment Republicans, the Dow Jones index, and more or less of half of the US voters and warm up to Trump.

Even Strangerland's getting there!

Trump's probably a shoo-in for 2020 if he wants it and isn't too tired by then. Just going by the trend.

Even Strangerland's getting there!

I'm willing to give the guy a chance now that he's been elected. I'm opposition, not obstructionist.

Trump's probably a shoo-in for 2020

He hasn't even been inaugurated yet for this election. No way of knowing what will happen in the next 4 years.

SL: He hasn't even been inaugurated yet for this election.

Yeah, that was a bit of an exaggeration. As was calling an entry in JT's quote-of-the-day an 'article'. But it's a start!

My dog has no political strings either. I expect him to accomplish just as much good as Trump will.

as long as she fights greed and corruption.

She is a long term professional politician, she personifies greed and corruption to the nth degree. She'll fight greed and corruption only when those she accuses fail to pay her off.
