We want to repopulate those areas because only around 20 percent of residents have returned there even after the evacuation orders were lifted.

Katsuei Hirasawa, minister for disaster reconstruction, saying the government will pay up to 2 million yen to families that move to areas around the crippled Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant, and an additional amount of up to 4 million yen to those who start new businesses in 12 cities, towns and villages where residents had been ordered to evacuate from after the triple meltdown at the plant.

Pure madness and misguided nationalistic pride.

I don’t understand the logic behind that. How to move there if there are still no businesses? And how to create a business if it is still unpopulated? That cannot really be forced or efficiently work , be it up to 2, 4 or 6 million yen during the starting phase.

Utter madness. Why would you want to re-populate that area? Two million yen to risk the health of your family? How life is so cheap for some.

Lots of wildlife there, though. I think they have to source a house for you first, before paying these subsidies.
