quote of the day

Wearing masks and practicing social distancing to prevent the virus from spreading are making people feel stressed, exhausted and sick of the daily pressure they face to observe these norms. That is only natural.

After six months of new social strictures to combat COVID-19 and relentless media coverage of the health crisis, posts on social media such as "#sick of coronavirus" are offering an insight into the overall state of the nation's mental health and the exhaustion people are feeling from increased pressure to conform.

How so? There are a lot of people here who used to put on masks for no reason and didn't talk to very many people anyway.

Welcome to the social pressure that is Japan. I doubt anyone is ‘sick of the daily pressure’. Just add it all the other ‘daily pressure’ they must endure to be part of this society.

What social practicing? I haven't noticed any in Japan, apart from, maybe, when people are lining up at the cashier according to the lines painted on the floor, or when the barbers specifically put a large distance between each seat. You take away those painted lines, and people just suddenly become ignorant again.

I find the "social distancing" very stress-relieving. Part of the stress of living in Tokyo was inability to maintain one's personal space, such as in the trains and other crowded spots. These days, I've got more space around me - and fewer sweaty, cigarette-smoking strangers in my face, and I'm really happy about it.

Now to put physical dividers between each train seat! (like on the London tube). That would be bliss.

Avoid the stress and don't wear a mask. Do not care what others think.

"What social practicing?"

Fortunately everyone is wearing a mask. But social distancing? Supermarkets are a terror. Everyone bunches around the On Sale items. Thought it would be different at my hospital? Ha! People bunch into the elevator. People sit together in bunches. People line up in bunches. Again: fortunately everyone is wearing a mask.

"Everyone" is NOT wearing a mask. It is up to each person and the situation. Frankly, I am thinking of wearing a bit of face drapery on the trains just to keep people from looking at me. Not wearing a mask.

Masks should be optional. Also, I am not going into three C areas, much as I miss them, and I am not going to any event that required a g.d. mask. Taking responsibility for my decision. Feel sorry for sheep wearing masks in the rain and on the coming humid, hot days. Thumbs up to the maskless walking down the open streets of Tokyo.

You don’t need to wear a mask.

What social distancing?

The only stressful thing is complete idiots who won't wear a mask.

None of this really bothers me. Just want to stay alive.

I am grateful for every day I am alive.

And here we are, wondering why East Asian countries are doing so much better than western countries where people think their freedom to do anything they like is more important than everyone's health.

The world has gone on for thousands of years without masks. Have you noticed that there are plenty of statistics for people supposedly infected but virtually few or no deaths.
