quote of the day

What’s behind all this is that Japan is still very much a male-dominated society and has not gotten used to women who are trying to take leadership roles and are speaking their minds.

One in four rookie assemblywomen has been sexually harassed or even stalked by their colleagues and constituents who often prey on the politicians’ inexperience or their drive to establish a support base, according to an Asahi Shimbun survey of 544 women who were elected to assemblies for the first time in the 2015 unified local elections.

Exactly. Woman are fine as long as they know their place. As equals or even as your boss--for far too many Japanese men that's a bridge too far.

Japan is really bad for this. "Give me a hug and I'll vote for you" and much worse. I think a line has to be drawn and after that it's zero tolerance.

Honestly, we are at the end of Heisei and some things have changed very little in the last 30 years. This being one of them.

The younger generations of male politicians, especially in the LDP, seem to have inherited / learned / adopted all of the neanderthal habits of their elders.

A truly sad thing for this country.

I have accepted long long time ago that this country is a male dominated country. I have no problem about it, if only they won't presume that all women can be bought.

The West is full of women who speak their minds, it doesn't achieve much - Please Japanese women don't follow Western women who talk a lot and blame men for all their failings.

Growing pains everywhere. Things take time. Work out the new work dynamics in a cooperative, understanding and clear headed way. Give people the benefit of the doubt, don’t take things nor yourselves too seriously , and it can be a win win. Bit of good will goes a very long way. Use the new era as a launch pad for positive change. The old guard is slowly retiring anyways.

Combative natures don’t help. Everyone gets to suffer then.
