Why did the figure triple? We have to look carefully at the scale and content of the party.

Yuichiro Tamaki, leader of the Democratic Party for the People, asking a question in the Diet after the Cabinet Office sought 57 million yen under the government's fiscal 2020 budget to cover costs for the annual cherry blossom-viewing event, held at Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden in Tokyo's Shinjuku Ward, for guests such as government officials, athletes and other famous people. The amount is triple the budget for this year's event.

That is quite the cost, considering you can view cherry blossoms for free.

Does anyone feel like this Cabinet is overbloated and wasting a hell of a lot of our money? This whole damn government? 57 million yen for a cherry blossom party? Give me back my money!

Man,

The 'elite' in Japan are so out of control regarding spending the public coffers.

Kicking the can down the road and kicking sand in the rank and file at the same time.

No accountability......whatsoever.

The average person is cutting back and tightening the purse strings, enduring falling wages and higher taxes and social welfare costs. While those who feed at the public trough are living it large just like it was in 1989 when times were so different and Japan thought it had a rosy future ahead.

All that booze is more expensive due to the sales tax increase. Add in the cost of all those blue mats, and yeah, I can see why the costs are so high. Wrong. Typical waste of taxpayer money but they will still approve it. How about using that money for something useful and having those rich and famous people pay for it themselves or at the very least leave a donation (say 5000 yen) to a charitable cause as a pretext to attending the event?
