Agree, very different sort of fans in my experience.

The picture at the top looks like some British bitter, but if Heineken are supplying the drinks it will be fizzy lager instead of proper ale!

Heineken have the technical know-how to keep the beer flowing at the stadiums.
It's sad that Heineken get their snouts into the venues because they wouldn't even know what rugby is.
Would have been better a local brewer emjoy the exposure.

How people handle their liquor is not a cultural thing. Maybe the biggest difference is the level of rugby fanaticism.

what an utter nonsense this article. I guess the writer is snuggling up to Heineken and the Loc2019 to assure at least his flow of beer is not interrupted and he is assured of the nice parti invites.
That’s all you can think about concerning the worldcup rugby? Beer and the fables of sold out games ?
they might not be violent hooligans the rugby fans but that does not make them gentlemen. Far from. But I agree that a loud drunk is better than a violent drunk

What does that mean?

No hooligans at rugby games.
just lots of drinking & singing

Rugby fans have a lot to learn about how to properly tear up a town centre after a game and a gallon.

fuuu I didn't look at the Timetable before now I am in Japan while this stupid WM is held there damn ...
Most places in Japan are already completely overcrowded, if there will be an extra crowd of annoying drunken fans rampaging trough the streets it will be a new level of annoyance ;(

Drunks! I'm not amused by them at all. I spend a lot of time in countries where alcohol consumption is very low, it's not a bad way to live. BTW, I spent 25 years in a trauma center and... drunks, I have zero tolerance for thier behavior.

There will be plenty of that outside the stadiums in bars and Izakayas, but as official sponsor, I am sure Heineken paid a lot of money for those rights and will wanting maximize it. A few locals might even develop a taste.
Next year at the olympics, good luck buying a Pocari Sweat or iemon-cha....you can guarantee it will be all Coke branded beverages
Um, actually Heineken are deeply involved in European Rugby, there Is The Heineken Rugby Champions Cup. They arent Johnny Come Latelys, they have paid their dues.

"We will be on our toes to make sure there's enough beer for fans," the World Cup organizing committee CEO Akira Shimazu told AFP
Akira sounds like someone you could enjoy drinking with.

Um, sponsoring for brand exposure is hardly "deeply involved".
