Having received three well-deserved stars in the Michelin Green Guide Japan as one of the top places to visit in the country, the Mitsuboshi Kaidou, otherwise known as Three Star Road, can take you on the ultimate historical tour.
The Mitsuboshi Kaidou stretches from Kanazawa to Nanto, Shirakawa, Takayama, and Matsumoto but has no strict course to follow. Each traveler's journey can be organized to meet their own choice of location, mood and timing. However, with many charming areas along the road that is home to World Heritage Sites and National Treasures, as well as some of the best-preserved Edo-period districts, it is highly recommended to take some time to discover each area.
With fun cultural attractions, an abundance of nature and community, hot springs, and local food specialties, the Mitsuboshi Kaidou offers ideal travel routes for everyone from first-timers, to Japan travel veterans and adventurous souls in need of a fresh perspective of Japan.
During our four-day video trip we had the opportunity to explore all five areas along the Mitsuboshi Kaidou. Traveling by car we toured around some of Japan’s most nostalgic streetscapes, aesthetic photo spots and spectacular natural landscapes whilst stopping here and there to try the areas best local dishes. Although we took a historically rich tour during our trip, contemporary art museums in cities such as Kanazawa and Matsumoto are also popular locations to visit along the way.
So come with us on a journey back into history.
