It's the fans who fan racism. Start there.

Football fans will use whatever they think will work to put opposition players off their game. Physical peculiarities and differences have always been used try and upset the opposition. Dark skin is just one of them. How can laws be introduced to ban some insults but not others?

Racism is for soccer as hotdogs for baseball..

Hmmm. I prefer fast food snacks to racial abuse, personally.

seadog - do I read this right that you are trying to justify racist chanting at football?? Fobbing it off as 'dark skin is just' one of many insults??

So if a right-wing facist goes to a game of football and starts chanting monkey chants at coloured players you excuse it as 'just trying to put them off their game'?

Essentially in the year 2019 you have tried to excuse the inexcusable racism at Italian and Russian football matches and actually complained why racist insults should be banned ahead of other insults.

I'm from a rough city pal. Multicultural city too. The seventies were not a nice time to be coloured or mixed race. This is the 21st century.

TigersTokyo - spot on. Zero justification. Zero tolerance.

The only way to end such practices is sadly by punishing more than the offenders.

That is - after such incidents, the football authorities declare the teams following game, to be played with closed gates. Always.

No supporters, No media = No money.

The by far greater majority of "good fans" will suffer as will the fans of the opposing team.

Sponsors will suffer not getting value for their investments, although they themselves might consider withdrawing from such clubs.

Media will suffer.

Football will suffer.

To borrow a line from Shakespeares Romeo & Juliet - All will be punished.

Such an outcry will be heard that the good clubs, good fans, good sponsors etc will exert such pressure on the moronic few that the disgusting practice will die out - rather rapidly.

The disgusting racism at Russian and Italian football matches is mirrored in their respective governments right-wing politics. So it is no coincidence that the rise in racism there is not being dealt with domestically. Fortunately in the UK it has largely been reduced, bar the idiotic social media trolls who hide in secret.

Fans have to police themselves - or it will instead be done for them
