Good for him! Now Japan can finally field someone dangerous in the 100m dash at the olympics.

Good work! Lets hope this young kid goes on with it. It seems Japan has so many world-class sprinters in their teens (possibly maturing faster as athletes than many overseas competitors, and higher training standards as kids?) but they seem to hit a plateau very young - Kiryu is a good example of that. Sprinters usually peak late 20s/early 30s.

Maybe - just maybe - Japan will be the dominant force in world sprinting in a few years with the likes of Cambridge, Brown and Kiryu. And Bolt will be long gone by then.

Not sure 10'05 will be enough to qualify for the WC final but if he can do that on a wet track no doubt he can go sub 10 in more favourable conditions.

Has he considered a switch to rugby ;)? Would make a great wing (plus he's only 18yo).

Japan is getting some world class sprinters because of us mixed blood kidz.

That is WHY Japan has some sprinters...let's not kid ourselves.

Not quite, Kiryu and two other rivals are full blooded Japanese.

Sani and Asuka Antonio Cambridge are mixed.

Would be dumb to switch to rugby.More money in track and field.

Depends. if you're a world class sprinter a la Bolt, Blake, Gatlin etc then yes you'll get sponsors and/or good money via the diamond's league, big championships etc. That's if you're top 5-10 in the world. Others not so good sprinters made the switch to other sports i.e us sprinter Ngwenya to rugby, a few other guys to the nfl in the 1990s.

Agree he would be dumb to switch now though, was only kidding (and hoping).

@Tiring

I am well-aware (being that I'm Japanese and all) that there are full blooded Japanese sprinters. Is that really a statement worth making?

But they aren't exactly known for their speed down through history are they?

I'll repeat my statement for you, but I'll make it clearer...

Japan's only chance at having world class sprinters at the moment are the fine half kidz that they have been blessed with.
