Coronavirus must hit peak by end of May for Tokyo Games to go ahead: French Olympic Committee chief

Right. Someone please go convey that message to the virus please. Tell it to hurry up and peak so we can all get on with the olympics- because nothing else in the world matters

Coronavirus must hit peak by end of May for Tokyo Games to go ahead

So....The IOC, and presumably the guvmint of Shinzo Abe and other sporting nations around the world, are all looking for a quick peak so's we can get this pandemic thing outta the way and get on with the party.

Makes sense.

At the same time, medical experts, healthcare officials and guvmints are telling us we need to delay/flatten out the peak till past the summer so that hospitals and healthcare resources are not overwhelmed.

That also makes sense.

But.... how to reconcile the two?

The coronavirus pandemic must have reached its peak and be on the wane by the end of May otherwise the Tokyo Olympics cannot be staged on schedule

It shouldn't be staged on schedule anyway, that's smack at the height of the summer heat. Should be moved back to the second week of October. It's possible the Olympics could be held then, depending on the circumstances with the virus.

Whether the virus is 'on the wane' would have to be more precisely defined of course, like where and how much. Plus more would have to be known re: reinfection rates. It probably is best to delay until there is a marketable vaccine, even one that it is hit and miss over seasons like a flu. Because this could very well be a virus that lies dormant giving the appearance of a cure and comes back, or a certain percentage of the population only producing very short lived antibodies.

"They are in extreme precaution, there are water-based gels everywhere. Everybody wears a mask, they work almost normally."

Dear Denis Masseglia,

Whom did you observe when you said that there are held everywhere and that everyone wears masks? What you see in high end meeting rooms us not a sample at all.

We, the ordinary people can't find sanitizers on market shelves. We don't get to buy masks. Ordinary stores don't have them... And they cost a lot on Amazon.

Don't fool the world by spreading wrong word.

Must reach the peak in May where? Worldwide?

Because if only in Japan, or let's say far East Asia, there might be no need for qualification rounds.

It won't of peaked globally by May. Listen to the scientists, not the moneymen.
