Wasn't a sumo wrestler forced to retire because he refused to compete worried about getting infected.

Wow, it's almost like we haven't got Coronavirus under control here at all?
Still, if we keep vaccinating at the same rate as we're going, we're on track for some progress in a mere 125 years

Japan's national sport isn't in the Olympics, do they know?

The weight of the entire sumo world and its traditions are now solely on these two blokes shoulders. Oh, the shame. They will never be looked at nor treated the same again.
This, good people , is why Japan’s corona infection rate is relatively low, despite the fumbling incompetence of the nations leadership class. The citizens are the police when it comes to maintaining social order. It may explain why politicians don’t need to be particularly talented to thrive. If they had to be they would. Hard to get your head around at first, but live here long enough and you’ll get it.
TARA TAN KITAOKA
Correct attitude.

Yes, and he refused with good reason. These wrestlers are OBESE, and as such, they'd be less likely than the average person of their ages to survive.

Cancel the tournament. Waut until next year, maybe.
Kumagaijin
Less likely to survive? Sure, perhaps thats what a US study has concluded (78% of deaths were obese), but we are talking about Japanese people and Japanese Sumo wrestlers (mostly) and so there needs to be a separate study done in order to make any new clear policies. Come on, you know how it works.
