4 pro baseball stadiums will close to fans during state of emergency

Sports are a very important part of a healthy society. Football is one of the most popular with people playing twice a month.

Yes. Football is the best sport for a variety of reasons. Great exercise being one of them - 5-a-side gets you in shape.

Baseball seems to involve a hell of a lot of standing around doing nothing in particular.

Both American football and soccer are great games, but I will disagree with you about baseball. You obviously have never played the game, or certainly not been coached well enough to understand everything that goes on.  No matter where the ball is hit, all nine players are moving somewhere (or should be moving), such as backing up throws or potential throws. Even when the ball is not hit, the players are anticipating it will come to them and what they will do with the ball, depending if there are people on base, the score of the game, etc..  Not to mention the excitement of the fans in Japan at the Tokyo Dome and other stadiums.

I have soccer and baseball season tickets and attended over 60 games in the last year.

Not once have a felt both fans and organizers have put fans at risk.

Personally I hope they reorganize the games for August during the Olympics seeing as they aren't going to happen

The Giants-Carp game on TV this afternoon had a huge crowd - yes, I understand that the restrictions begin tomorrow. But if it was serious enough to stop having crowds at all, then it should have been serious enough today to bow a few times and tell everyone "we are very sorry for the inconvenience but spectators cannot attend, please apply for a refund of your tickets". Inconvenience trumps community health? Or, "maybe the virus won't spread until this coming week."

Doesn't matter, they aren't the Olympics, so no protests. No sour grapes that failed to get tickets, so no big deal.

What is extraordinary is that sports have been going on everywhere even through the horrible winter months, and yet people turn a blind eye to that while complaining only about the summer Olympics.

“Sports are outdated” riiiight, let’s all sit at our computers inside all day and become real healthy.

they should stop investing in baseball and repurpose all the stadiums for football.

Outdoor games have been held for months with reduced spectators without any problem. Now, changing the words into an SOE for a few prefectures and they decide to close to spectators. What will change, nothing. But they have to do it otherwise will receive criticism. Again, not a science based decision
