It would be an even bigger joke for Mori to appoint his successor and stay on as an advisor. In terms of the country's mood, this is "KY" on steroids.

Regardless of who it is, I would say it is pretty stupid for a preparatory committee that's run for six years to have an imposing leader parachuted in from outside at the last minute.

It's almost comical that Seiko Hashimoto wasn't immediately offered the job. She's the OLYMPICS MINISTER, and has represented Japan at BOTH SUMMER AND WINTER OLYMPICS. How qualified does she have to be?

Hats off to Kawabuchi for reading the air and turning it down - this is not the time for yet another old man who would be retired if he did any other job that politician.

If I look around, I can’t see such a big male dominance in most fields. Salaries are also widely leveled to an equal nothing, so that it’s irrelevant if you get some coins more than a woman because you have to eat more instead, for example. You can see women in all professional areas, also as truck drivers or JSDF personnel, even some on construction sites and so on. And if you walk around in your city you will see only women , in cafeterias, shops, department stores and much more, but you won’t find a single store that would be interesting for men to walk in and shop with pleasure and is filled with a majority of men, not even one. Every bet... Or switch on the TV, only romantic dramas and dancing boy groups. You can surely easily continue and complete the list of what I am telling. That’s why I think, that this discussion is simply a fake and a media bubble. Only in political fields or in some top positions you may find some more men than women, that’s true, but obviously the very last resort they have left.

And vice versa. The LGBTQ community says a lot of discriminatory comments about the Christian community as well. I really think that LGBTQ community should be just treated like a religion. Different religious people do not force their religious views on others and just go to their churches and assemblies to be with their like-minded individuals. The LGBTQ community should do the same because there are a lot of deep-seated morals and values that many do not agree with.

For crying out loud just get rid of all the old gits in politics! By that time in life and their careers they're just totally looking out for themselves and their buddies interests. They don't even care if they get caught!

I think it's good to see Japanese people finally standing up for something. Hopefully we'll see more of it.

I was in the bank the other day and there were a few dozen women working and perhaps 5 men, but it was clear who the bosses were. Its not that fields are dominated by men, but men seem to be the ones that either manage or own these businesses, getting the big paychecks, behind the scenes. You see this in schools too. Men dominate admin positions or serving on boards. You might only see women in cafeterias, shops, cafe's etc, but if you wait long enough, you'll eventually see a man come in too see how his business is doing.

Ahhh, it's a tough life being a man isn't it!? Needing more money just to fill our oversized bellies. No good shops to go to to look at man stuff... what a horrible injustice! If only women would just understand how good they have it.

Poor guy. Now he has to go home and listen to his female relatives nag him. And we know they won't stop talking for a long time.

The reason why sexism won't go away if we keep old dinosaurs in position is that these dinosaurs have benefitted from a highly sexist society.

Kawabuchi has professed subscriber of far-right magazine, he is also one of Japanese revisionists who deny fact of war crime of Japan, and has often done hate comments through own account.

Japan and reforms are not words that sound really good together.

I highly doubt anything will truly change,all this cover from the media is just because Japan was ashamed under the world public opinion but after the Olympics are over the old Oyaji at the corporations will keep ruling with their fist.

I think that sexism is being embellished, in order to remove these dinosaurs, because people in Japan are desperate for change and reform. Japan is clapped out, declining in every way. The Olympics have not even happened yet but it seems to be one disaster after another. Japan has had it's day along with the Tokyo Olympics, but with proper reform, Japan will always do well in Division 2.

Desperate for change and reform? You wrote that as a declarative statement of fact. Do you have any information to back that up? Otherwise, it's simply your opinion.
