Right, a best of seven games series has a game end in a tie! Only in Japan!

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Ironical that Japanese pro baseball is mindful of not overworking its players, calls it a day after 12 innings (down from 15), while their American counterparts slug it out to 18. There is a fascination with multiples of 3, but this is odd.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

How can you have a Japan Series game end in a tie? What a dud

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Actually I dislike both teams so it was good to see them beat each other lol

I think the reason they stop games at 12 is because of the transportation system here. If they finished in the 18th like the World Series, transportation getting home would be chaos as probably 80-90% take trains.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Because they got the same number of runs.

It'sonly the first game - there are 6 more to go.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

So what happens if the teams split the remaining 6 games? Co-Champions?

So what happens if the teams split the remaining 6 games? Co-Champions?

If that actually happened (the odds are miniscule) it would show that neither team is better than the other.

Sure, the odds are miniscule.

In MLB the World series has gone to seven games 39 times out of 115. So that means it happened 34% of the time.

Anybody know the actual odds for the Japan Series? More importantly does anybody know what's the actual rule in this case if they each win three?

They keep playing till somebody wins 4 games

If tied 3-3 it goes to the team with the better regular season record. Both teams have the same number of wins so I assume it does to win percentage which would be Hiroshima thus making this tie essentially a victory for the carp

If tied 3-3 it goes to the team with the better regular season record.

This only happens in a playoff series before the Japan Series. That's because they can't delay the rest of the playoffs by playing Game 8 or 9 or 10, etc. But once they're in the Japan Series, that's the last part of the playoffs, so there's no more worry about playing more games.

So they play Game 8 with no innings limit. And if for some reason (such as due to weather) they're still tied, they play Game 9, again with no innings limit. And so on, until someone finally wins 4 games.
