The perfect hack of that will mean they will never be able to undo the personal damage it will cause
All security eventually is broken, but you can't change your face and eyes etc every time the security is broken. That's specifically why you NEVER use biometrics. So you can change your passwords and systems of control to keep updated

Here we go people.
Prepare for this to be openly the norm in 10 years. I am sure that there is facial recognition being used in transportation and on the streets, but the power just isn’t given to use it.
Computers and the people who control them will know everywhere you are and go.

China, several cities use facial recognition to monitor everybody, you start with so many points some actions gain you points, other actions deduction of points, get too low its reeducation time. And is there a transparent Oversite? NO. Is there any plan in Japan to protect privacy NO. can you opt out NO. Until there are responsible protections in place I'm against it. Or perhaps my reeducation might be a pleasurable experience.

F1 have been doing this for the last 5 years.

It won't be the norm because it won't work the way people think it will

recipe for disaster...

Are they sure they don't need fingerprints? I had to give them my fingerprint at the city office recently, lol
Akie
Dango bong, scientifically speaking, you are right, if AI is not properly utilized, which we could expect from Abe govt.

If it will still going after 2020 what will happen I do a plastic surgery identical to my neighbor or going further to even eyes monitored recognition, it will fail when you see Minority Report movie, Tom Cruise playing someone who can change the eyes to be recognized the right person. NEC please find another ways of copy on how the right person be digitally and correctly recognized.

It will go one after 2020 and as they pics at the airports of the new arrivals and with Japan as one the few countries already executing the double finger scan you can say it's already going on..
Face recognition can divide identical twins and for the rest enjoy Mission Impossible :)

Don't hire Taspo to do it!

The best authentication is not a single use but the concept of a second confirmation. So gmail will send a message to my phone to confirm it's me if I'm logging into another WiFi area I don't normally use. Banks will ask a personal question not related to physical characteristic or name that I have setup before. There are better ways to authenticate and keeping those proxies updated, even changed, than any permanent biometric

So this so-called security is only for the athletes and staff. The rest of us will have to take our chances with the local police. Great :/

Good, I don't see how anyone could remotely have an issue with this.

Japan should double-down on this.
I’m sure Japan really does not want to be left behind by China when it comes to deploying cctv tech with a.i. icing on top.

Google Glass died because the security potential loses were greater than the benefits to the point that bars were banning people coming in to troll for whatever gov't agency they were afraid of.
So yes, there are examples of failed face recognition systems
Akie
Artificial intelligence against artificial beauty, that is modern way.

And soon, the same Face recognition system is deployed at subway stations, public buildings, airports, etc.

Good idea. That way they'll know who won each race!
Akie
Face recognition for security ? That has been done since monkey time. What the AI cand do is to increase efficiency, to save time and money.

"'ll be surprised if it works with all the sweat pouring off people's faces."
It's plainly clear that you don't use the Electronic Passport gates!
