Rangers can have him but which duty? Pitcher or power hitter? Rangers is not in NL. In AL, no team used a pitcher as DH who play full 9 innings. They are older and experienced players in the team.. Never a rookie.

Probably some NL teams have eyes on him. For AL, teams that are ambitious to defeat Astro next season might try to sign him.

Why? At least there if he pitches, he could sub at times as a DH too!
I hope to God no one finds out what "Tani" means in the local Okinawan dialect. Then they will be calling for "Oh Tani"

If you think the author is glorifying Otani, you should see the articles written about him by the papers in Toronto, New York, Seattle, etc. They're putting him on a pedestal so high that he's almost destined to disapoint.
Thankfully, MLB scouts have come a long way since the days of Matsuzaka and Igawa. They've reported that his pitching is currently at a 3rd starter level and that his hitting is around .260 with 20-25 home runs. But at the age of 22, he's got some serious potential.
Hoping for an agreement to be made over the next 24 hours!

I wonder how much the author is being paid to glorify Otani to overseas readers? Otani has potential, but just doing well in Japan does not automatically translate to success in MLB as evidenced by a large number of predecessors.
Position players, from Japan, with a few rare exceptions, do well in MLB, and the Nippon Ham Fighters are lucky that he played for them at all as Otani had, from HS, wanted to play in MLB and not here. At least he is giving him team the opportunity to make some money by posting him now. If he waits two years, they get nothing in return.
