Get the refunds NOW if you know you cannot attend, because I'm sure they're not going to make it easy as is, let alone if they become afraid they won't be able to sustain paybacks.

My thinking they have already spent the money and are not really going to want to payback money spent. Perhaps they could send a gym mat, or a horse leg, a vaulting pole because everyone wants one. Or a trip to Nigeria to meet a prince.

I feel sorry for the people who bought the "mansions" at the Olympic Villages and are going to be unable to move in, but are still contracted to pay, from August and September of this year.

Many people figured they would be prime locations and bought them and got mortgages on them and now can not move into them, have expiring leases on their current accomodations, and have their children registered into schools in their new locations.

These are the folks that have been truly screwed, and the government is currently doing nada to help them out.

If they are doing well enough to buy those over-priced mansions, I'm sure they'll be fine. And I doubt they'll be charged for period they aren't living there.

It was already stated that refunds would be available in the email that went out to all purchasers on March 31. How is any of this new?

Reckless and Cricky,

Grat replies as per usual.

I couldn't agree more.

Get the refunds now! It is likely that the Olympics next year are not going to happen, and if they do, very few people will attend. Therefore, Japan will not have any real Olympics in 2021.

If you believe that a vaccine is going to be the solution by then, you are dreaming.

Te Japanese government and Olympic Committee will be saying right up to the final moment that "the Games are only postponed and not cancelled". Mark my words: the Olympic Games will be cancelled or postponed again. The IOC have big money riding on broadcast right and merchandising etc. And they will push Japan like they did this year. But at the end of the day, there can't be an event without competitors, and by this time next year, Covid-19 will still be with us.

And now we hear about more "gifts" from China?! Pig influenza and Bubonic Plague!

Sorry, but if you purchased tix for the Games, you should quickly apply for a refund. It's just not gonna happen.

If you believe that a vaccine is going to be the solution by then, you are dreaming.

It's an optimistic solution. That said, there is are more resources being committed by humanity towards this virus than any other virus in our entire history. If the ever were to come up with a vaccine in that short a period of time, it would be for this virus.

That said, vaccines are not the only solution they are working on. Vaccines are usually the slowest of responses to viruses, and there are multiple other avenues they are pursuing to try to deal with the virus, such as finding existing medicines with known and manageable side effects to mitigate the effects of the virus, and using the plasma of people who have immunity, whether natural or developed, against the virus.

People who want to cancel the Olympics now are fatalists. Glass is half-empty folk. We don't need to have rose-colored glasses on - there's a very real possibility the Olympics will need to be canceled - but neither should that decision be made prematurely, simply because some people can't handle not knowing for a few more months.
