Look at photos of her 3 years ago and now.... Notice the difference?

She needs to hire a nutritionist to her team. Those extra 5-6 kilos cannot be helping her movement.

Overrated, she's lost it now. Still got her political activism career to fall back on.

For someone that kept losing, the media sure love to keep focusing her. How about other athletes getting some spotlight for once?

8 ( +15 / -7 )

She needs to lose atleast 5 kilos and get into shape. Change her attitude or hang up the racket! Her effort level and training is a Zero!

This reads like a making up excuses for why she and Krejcikova lost out in the first round article.

7 ( +12 / -5 )

Wonderful. Now we don’t have to hear anything else from her.

5 ( +11 / -6 )

At least she did have all her excuses pre prepared.

Naomi will regroup and refresh and get ready for Wimbledon next month.

No she won’t. She has already said she will skip this, the most premiere tennis event because it won’t help her rankings. In other words she knows she has zero chance of doing well so she doesn’t want another embarrassing loss on her record for her sponsors . I am only surprised she didn’t cite health reasons as the issue as that always draws a lot of sympathy.

What the article didn't mention is that Osaka is now thinking of skipping Wimbledon because 'no ranking points are on offer'. Convenient. And Wimbledon's cancel culture has backfired on itself.

3 ( +11 / -8 )

She just couldn't focus on the game.

My guess is that she was too worried about the war going down in Ukraine.

or black lives matter

She should get another job. One that she's good at.

like a couch or something, wont be hard for her to find a job somewhere but her mood swings wouldnt help much

Naomi Osaka has become distracted, off load the business stuff to qualified professionals. Leave woes of the world to politicians.

Concentrate on Tennis 24/7.

Hiro, I assume you know how the news get their revenue. At the moment, there are two articles about the French open: one has already 8 comments, the other one has 0. Probably the number of clicks has a similar ratio. Here is your answer (which for a tennis fan like myself is sad, but ...)

Mr Kipling:

It's called embracing oneself. (And eating your exceedingly good cakes).

U turn on Wimbledon,

"I would say the decision is kind of affecting my mentality going into grass. I'm not 100% sure if I'm going to go there," Osaka said.

"I would love to go just to get some experience on the grass court, but at the same time I'm the type of player that gets motivated by seeing my ranking go up."....BBC

Yes feet on the court, racket swinging, you have answered your own question!!

As my Dad says don't be a thin yogurt.

What's in the two bags- medical supplies?

I can hear an Andre Botticelli Song playing in the background on her latest flop, “Time to Say Goodbye”

May 20  11:14 am JST I posted this:

Posted in: Osaka returns to French Open with questions over form, fitness  See in context

Osaka, the world's highest-paid sportswoman with a $57 million income last year according to Forbes, now believes she is more content both on and off the court.

Yes, that would make me more content too.

My prediction, out in the first round due to lack of preparation.

Close.

I know what's in the bag but the furyosas aren't gonna like it. See she's got a bag full a nothing but goodtimes! GrandSlam trophy or 4x, all those winnings and what's this?? Contracts from anonymous virtue posters… permission to rent-free for life in my head signed- "RARGH its NAOMI again"

Downvote if you love Naomi!

Mr Kipling @7.57am

Absolutely agree- she needs to be careful with this aspect.

Probably needs to overhaul her medical advisors too- two games in a row entering a match with obvious issues. Regularly using injury problems as an excuse is wearing thin.

Winning Wimbledon is the pinnacle of any tennis career, whether or not points are awarded. Sometimes prestige overrides the almighty dollar.

As long as she is happy with herself, that's all that matters. So, she lost, and seems to have permanently lost it. Big deal. It's more important she has a better outlook about herself than she has in the past.

Very disappointing for Naomi and for her homeland Japan. The news of this latest loss has come as a big shock to her fellow countrymen and women. I'm sure everyone will support her in her next tournament and she will show that Japanese spirit! Good luck Naomi!

Tough loss, but that's competitive tennis at this level. Anyone can beat anyone else when they are on fire. Well done Ms Anisimova, a very talented player who could go very deep in Paris.

Naomi will regroup and refresh and get ready for Wimbledon next month.

Good luck Naomi!
