It was exciting indeed and stressful. Whew! Congrats Naomi!

Congratulations to Naomi on her hard-fought win!

Serena is going to have a hard time getting No.24 with the way Naomi is playing!

True! And we'll see how long it takes Naomi to reach No.23!

Nice return! There is no need to take a jab at Serena.

Congrats to Kvitova, she played great.

Naomi recovered nicely from the 2nd set meltdown, but after all those match points were on Kvitova’s serve, not her own. No issues closing it out in the 3rd, great mental skills on display - from both.

No. 1 Naomi, great stuff!

I think we will be seeing a lot of this young lady in the future.

Inspirational.!!

Nice win by from all accounts s very nice person. Happy to see this nice young star rise to the top. Don’t let fame change the way you are Miss Osaka!

Osaka already was the first player representing Japan — female or male — to win a Grand Slam singles title.

Nice to see the writers get this one right, unlike the rest of the media in Japan!

When people were debating here at JT if Naomi is Japanese I said Naomi is the first tennis player representing Japan to win a Grand Slam. Someone said I was close but no cigar. It is nice to see someone agreeing with me.

It's a more accurate description, hell plenty of athletes (not talking about Naomi here) "suddenly" change their country of origin to get into the Olympics, so representing is the accurate term here too in my opinion.

Well done! Congratulations! Serena is going to have a hard time getting No.24 with the way Naomi is playing!

Congratulations to her! Japan is proud of her.

Naomi was having her own meltdown, but she recovered

Congrats, that's what ya do after a meltdown

Now she's based in Florida and has dual citizenship.

And she had until October to answer the Japanese government on which nationality she wishes to retain.

It is going to get a lot of attention later in the year.

Omedetto, for Ms. Osaka's second straight tournament win! Keep rolling, Naomi-san!

2nd straight Grand Slam tournament.

There is no need to take a jab at Serena.

Not even close to a job. Serena has dominated womens tennis for quite a long time, I have a hell of a lot of respect for the way she plays and it's a compliment to BOTH!

Well done, Naomi Osaka. Magnificent.

Congratulations to Naomi Osaka and Petra Kvitova! It was an exciting match, especially the nail-biting first set. Way back when Naomi was ranked 72, the only sponsors she could get were Nissin and ANA. Now that she is so well-known and no. 1, the offers are coming out of the woodworks. She is definitely a good representative of the new generation of stars in women's tennis.

so representing is the accurate term here too in my opinion.

most accurately is shes a Japanese / American with an AMerica / Haitian father.

she could have easily decided to represent America since she has far more American culture imprinted on her.

But its great she represents Japan becuase it now show that being Japanese isnt solely the  homologous society in both ethnicity and culture it was once thought to be.

Understood. No hard feelings. OK?

Why do I get so many dislikes just asking how she plays on clay and grass courts?

Well done to the Haitian-American-Japanese.

I guess Naomi next goal is to collect all 4 grand slams. If she wins the French Open and Wimbledon she will be holding all four grand slams at the same time which will make her a legend. So how are Naomi's game on clay and grass courts?
