Interesting, isn't it. Most Japanese people and these companies polled are not interested in the Olympics, but our government, that we elected to represent us, finds it difficult to say no to American TV networks and we are stuck with it.

Irony!

"Japan is struggling to contain the coronavirus"

yeah right, today's cases in Tokyo were under 500.

"Over 70% firms said canceling or postponing the Games will barely have any impact on their earnings."

and that is why, they feel way they do. I wonder if they had dropped 15 billion-24billion, they would feel the same way.

Wasn't there a survey, was it by NHK, a few weeks that got diametrically opposite results?

No Olympics.

The IOC, offered to postpone the Olympics until 2022. Abe, the prime minister, at the time, refused. He deigned it his legacy and wanted The Games to occur during his rule. His term would have ended in the Autumn of 2021, some months after The Games were completed. As it is known, he was 'forced' out of office by ill health that coincided with a scandal in government that was partially squashed and within which he was involved as a benefactor or progenitor.

Whatever the present cost, in terms of outlays, the costs are exponential and there is no return on investment to offset the funds dedicated to The Games. Nor is there an allowable preparation time for all of the athletes, especially those in team sports, which typically has a series of international competitions preceding The Olympics. At the moment that is not possible. Nor should international visitors be allowed into Japan during a pandemic and preceding the vaccination of the public at large. If the IOC has any legitimacy and one wit of wisdom, the games would commence, in Tokyo, 2022. That would give everyone & everywhere time to put their houses in order post-pandemic.

Without denying the sensibility, possibility or probability of your claim, do you have any evidence of it?

Do these supposed surveys ask why people or firms want the Olympics cancelled? Cancellation will not help with COVID. Japan has some of the lowest COVID cases and deaths on the planet. And if you're worried about catching it, stay home.

Cancel the games for the sake of cancelling? Doesn't really add up.
