It's a pity and a shame that politics and war has infiltrated something unifying as a peaceful competition like this. Yet at the same time South Africa during its apartheid era was banned from the Olympics and other Games because of that crap and total UN sanctions against South Africa finally ended apartheid there. Ask the late great Abp. Desmond Tutu. And sanctions against Libya also made Qaddafy quit his terror shenanigans (for a while) until the 2011 Revolution erupted where he was put down for good.

Sanctions were put on Russia in 2014 for annexing the Crimea, Putin's puppet lifted them. Now Putin doesn't have a sputnik running America, but he wants to have puppets in neighboring states. Last month a one-week 'peacekeeping' war reinstalled the Kazakh PM, that's one neighboring puppet for Putin now. Now he wants another satellite in the Ukraine. Now that the US has a real POTUS again and this time other nations are joining in on the sanctions game.

Sanctions work. They take more time, but they can and do put the squeeze for a change. It's better than fighting. And expelling Russian and Belarusian athletes from these Games is another gesture. You misbehave, you can't come to the party. And if means banning those nations from these competitions then so be it.

On the lighter side, that's a really cute Games mascot there. Is that supposed to be a Mr. Christmas Tree Ornament or a Mr. Tomato Head or what?

I am so sick and tired of hearing about the Olympics and then the ParaOlympics...

I think this is the only IOC decision I’ve ever agreed with.

The live broadcast of the opening on Chinese state TV did not translate Parsons’ condemnation of war and and then lowered the volume of his remarks in English for a while.

Another reason not to keep awarding the Olympics or any other world championship events to this totalitarian state.

“As the leader of an organization with inclusion at its core, where diversity is celebrated and differences embraced, I am horrified at what is taking place in the world right now.”

Oh, put a sock in it, Andrew. Look at what country you awarded the games to….

Why disabled people are still living in a war zone is complete evidence of incompetence of the Ukrainian government.

A military invasion and ridiculous war in Ukraine has absolutely nothing to do with the Paralympics in Beijing.

Other than paralympians being unfairly ousted from the sporting event in an act of political prejudice.

It literally did open under the cloud of war in Japan -- NHK decided to switch off the start of the opening ceremonies to go to its 9:00 p.m. news, which covered the war in Ukraine instead of the opening. If you wish to be the official broadcaster of something, it should be mandatory you broadcast it.

They cited tensions in the Athletes Village.

And the solution was complete ban of athletes who had no say in what their mad leader does, the about turn a day after is clear indication that the IPC was pressured by some countries. By the way, was the U.S ever banned from any olympics when GB decided to lie and invade a sovereign nation called Iraq leading to the death of millions of iraqi citizens. Who really cares they are not europeans and are disposable lesser lives.

Talk about brainwashing.

Only Russian people can stop their president.

Not according to Zulenskyy and he should know.

Finally.

BUT they should have been applied a year ago as well as arming the Ukrainians which Zulenskyy begged for. Sanctions don’t necessarily work always, didn’t stop North Korea and it didn’t stop South Africa and other rogue nations and it definitely won’t stop Putin. He’s had a year to prepare for this. Of course he know what was coming and prepared for the long-term offensive.

Russia is doing what it can to increase the number of eligible Paraolympians candidates for Russia, Belarus and Ukraine for the next games.

Says the guy who supported Trump refusing aid to Ukraine to try to dig up fake dirt on Hunter Biden.

You guys were so silly, you didn't realize the truth was there all along, it was just stored with Hillary's emails, which were hidden under Trump's top secret files he hid at Mar a Lago.

Of course the Russian half-crippled athletes, boys & girls, are responsible for the policies of the Russian Government, on their wheelchairs ammunition was delivered to the Russian army so they are denied the right to compete in these games.

Yes, now the West won't have to beat its head against the wall in search of whom to fake doping troubles. The real competition is gone.
