So the IOC stipulated the date range for the Olympics to be held (Jul 15-Aug 31), but the JOC chose the worst possible dates within that sweaty period (Jul 24-Aug 9).

Let the BLAME Games begin!

Tokyo said in its bid that its proposed dates have "many days of mild and sunny weather," providing "an ideal climate for athletes to perform at their best."

Liars.

Why?

Stupidity!

Money is all that matters to the IOC, the athletes are just cannon fodder to their money making machine. The spectators count for even less!

A quick look at the average temperatures to date for Tokyo (https://www.holiday-weather.com/tokyo/averages/) indicates that even September would probably (even with climate change) be cooler than JUNE IS! Why should Tokyo be prevented from taking a similar exception to the rule about media coverage seasons and using a later date foe the summer Olympics 2020 just as Sydney, Australia is reported in this article to have done? Unless Tokyo applies to do so, will even early morning practice be of use to the athletes? Compare Tokyo's current AM temperatures with Madrid's for example.

"Tokyo said in its bid that its proposed dates have "many days of mild and sunny weather," providing "an ideal climate for athletes to perform at their best.""

Ummm... NO day in Japan is like that in summer. None. It is the exact opposites, and the tens of thousands of people hospitalized for heatstroke, with more than 100 deaths in the past couple of weeks alone, are a big exclamation point on that. The Games should be taken away from Tokyo for the blatant lies alone, forgetting about the fact that people are going to die -- either spectators or athletes, or both.

And the article, in making sure to mention sports like the American NFL and baseball series there, fail to mention the NPB climax series and Championship series, and the fact that the Games would have at the very least conflicted with the lead up to said events. THAT was the deciding factor. Since it's all said and done, and Japan refuses to change the dates, they use foreign broadcasters as the scapegoat. They may well have told Tokyo what they want, but it was Tokyo that asked "How high?" when they said jump.
