Aaron's death prompts call to change name: Braves to Hammers

I think the Braves has had multiple native American representatives on paid staff for years to discuss all "Braves" related issues that could be offensive to those populations. The "tomahawk chop" cheer was the most offensive in the last polls and I think it was removed - a few years ago.

Many Native American people, including the National Council of American Indians, have called for the Braves to change both their name and end the use of the chop, asserting the Braves’ name and use of the chop perpetuates the “warrior savage” myth. Some take issue with the chop but not necessarily the name in and of itself. Some are not offended by either.

“What we’ve been trying to do with the Braves is allow the Braves to be a platform for these stories to be told,” Keel said. “To use the Braves as a tool to educate Georgians on the effects of the Trail of Tears, on the devastating effects that happened to the Cherokees, to the Creeks, to the Choctaws, to the Seminoles, to share those stories and allow them to be honored.”

Every adult knows that historical figures are caricatures, not real. This knowledge needs to be taught to the children of Georgia and for many, going to a Braves game will be the most interesting way for that subject to be learned.

Sports teams are so "woke" these days. It's a shame they bow down to the few squeaky wheels.
