Lindsey Vonn and Julia Mancuso give the U.S. a gold-silver finish!

I bet this will not be the headline on any newspaper in the US, like Japanese silver was here yesterday.

Small people, small hopes.

Small people, big heart. As an American, I'm glad the U.S. is doing well. Being an Olympic athlete takes years of hard training, and the dedication to keep going is something money can't buy. Which is why for the pixie-ish Japanese to compete with the Euro-giants like Austria and Norway says a lot about the heart of these people.

By the way, where are the bikini shots of Vonn?

Well don't know about the print edition, but she is right there on the front page of the New York Times website. Holding the flag too. An inspiration to small people with small hopes is she?

Fore sure she was a big name to most of the Cdn newspapers, to also on the TV screens from start to right now. After all she deserved it plus her training along with attitude one just have to love the gal.

I think I was misunderstood. I was calling Japanese small for proping up their medals as some kind of world domination propoganda.

I think the US media has a more proper perspective. Love Vonn, what a frickin babe

"world domination propaganda?" what the hell?

Go team USA!

I get the world domination idea, but I always wonder how much of the news propaganda is representative of the public and how much is just to get more viewers. After all, it is easier to get people involved if they think they are part of a cause or a team. I'd hate to think that NHK's version of reality is an accurate depiction of what Japanese society wants. Do Japanese people really want to see headlines like "日本vs世界"(Japan vs The World)?

Interesting how there is no follow-up on the speed-skating, given how Ohno is now supposed to be the greatest athlete in the sport in history. I can understand that they don't want to play it up too much, given his comments after winning. That guy has lost any ounce of respect I had for him, and he doesn't deserve the medals. In fact, his attitude is pretty contrary to the spirit of the games, and if that's criteria for stripping medals, as has happened on occasion in summer at least, he should have at least one silver taken away, if not two.

As for Vonn... awesome job. And aside from Ohno, great work by Americans today all told; it's making JT's sports section look more like the 'American Medal Tally Report' than anything. :)

Great run by Vonn. She is awesome. Timing for her run worked out well for her after some delays. Pretty gutsy lady!

Just saw the highlights. Terrible course conditions. Again.

"Just saw the highlights. Terrible course conditions. Again."

Guess they should take the gold back then, eh?

Joking... partly. My point is that it can't be helped. The weather is absolutely awful this year for the area, and quite awful for other reasons in other parts of the world... let's say the east coast of the US and Canada. Obviously if that could have been predicted Vancouver would not have gotten the Olympics. As it is, these athletes are doing their best with what they've got, and I hope it gets better tomorrow, or as soon as possible. If it were held somewhere else there's no guarantees it would be any better.

Anyway, again, awesome job to these athletes.

The course was fast and very challenging with large air. You could have had all the speed you wanted -If you didn't see it I would recommend watching it. But the attrition rate was high -seemed like a 50% athlete failure rate.
