Give it up, son. The dual-role dream is done. I hate the Angels so I don't really care, but you are of little use if you can't pitch and are day-to-day as a hitter.

Is it normal for Japanese baseball players who go to play in America to either get seriously injured and/or put on a lot of weight. A rite of passage?

Done? He is 26 years old with a long career ahead of him. Do you know what day-to-day even means? He could play tomorrow or this weekend.

Fragile, mentally and physically.

It's probably because Japanese coaches have no idea what the term "pitch count" means. They all just burn their pitchers like that.

I don't watch Japansese baseball, but do they have "set up men" or "closers?"

Maybe they should try converting Ohtani to first baseman just to keep his hot bat in the game. It's beginning to look like his pitching arm has had it, but he can still hit home runs.

Japanese pitchers spend more time on the DL than on the mound when it comes to the MLB. They just can't hack it for very long. Too much abuse in high school here.

He could be lucky to be out of action, I am guessing the entire league will have to shut down soon due to COVID.

It's a disturbing pattern for sure, but this rationale for it makes no sense to me. If overuse by Japanese coaching were truly the problem, then Japanese pitchers who play in Japan would have the same tendency toward injury. But they don't - it's only after they've gone to North America that this trend appears

Unfortunately, another in a long line of overly hyped Japanese MLB busts from overseas.

Always injured and then flames out.

It was a good run though brief.

He is returning after Tommy John, spring training cut short, and has some issues to iron out. Why does everyone want him to fail and so quick to write him off! His heater will be back.
