And the rules resulted in a complicated, confusing, and unjust finish to the season. The clubs must have agreed to the change, which dragged the competition back to the 90's, baffling fans.
Urawa finished 15 points clear and then lost on away goals!? Surely things will have to return to the regular format in the near future.

Next season's J League 1 will revert back to the single stage format where the table topper will be crowned champion. I can't wait.

So glad to hear it will revert back to the 'one stage' i.e. normal system next year. As I said in a previous post it would be ridiculous if Kashima won after finishing 11th in the second stage and what happened?! True enough, the rules were set and everyone knew that, so I suppose you could say Kashima exploited the situation by saving themselves for the playoffs, but you have to feel for Urawa. I'm pretty sure only Kashima fans would say they were worthy champions over the whole season. Roll on next year!

the J-League is a joke. "table toppers" that sounds ridiculous.
