[H]e will make more money in Japan than he would in the minor league...

Japanese professional baseball is a great alternative to US minor league as a spring board to MLB.

MLB top draft picks usually make it to the majors around 3 years (there are many 22-23 year old rookies the last few years) - that is, assuming they make it to the majors in the first place (since the MLB minor league system is quite competitive)

Smart move by Stewart. With this he will make more money in Japan than he would in the minor league and then he will be eligible to play in the major league at a quicker rate than the average drafted player. This might cause a lot of issues for the MLB in the future if the don't start paying their minor league players more money.
