Come On You Gunners. EIE.

Arsenal look a good bet for top 4 and so do Liverpool on current form. Man U will undoubtedly throw another shedload of money at the problem in the summer whether or not they get in the Champions League but there are serious problems there and if you consider how much has been spent and the football they've played, this season has been very poor. Di Maria and Falcao look pretty awful business at the price ( among others ) and their very busy keeper has been the player of the season for me. If you look at their run-in, it's by far the hardest of the top 4 challengers. Chelsea, City, Arsenal and Liverpool probably deserve the top 4 places although I'd love to see Southampton sneak in.

Van Gaal is overrated. his TV manner and "insights" are awful and his team selection and tactics are both uninspiring and, so far, only mediocrely succesful.

Did you know that sometimes teams adjust their tactics and can still will, or not lose, despite being down to 10 men?

Much truth is spoken here. Just ask Greece.

Just saw the Di Maria incident. Hardly assault but you don't grab the ref's shirt. The dive was pathetic. Deserved to go.

but more so by the call that effectively decided the outcome in the 77th minute.

Nope. It was decided in the 61st minute. By the 2nd goal scored by Welbeck in a game that Arsenal won 2-1. Actually.

Well done to Welbeck. He was shown the door so they could bring in an expensive import and he's come back to show them they were wrong. Welbeck is easily good enough to contribute what Falcao or Van Persie have done this season.

@USNinJapan

When a United player gets sent off you often say things like "effectively decided the outcome". I remember you said the same when Nani was sent off against Real Madrid. Did you know that sometimes teams adjust their tactics and can still will, or not lose, despite being down to 10 men?

Di Maria’s dismissal came after he was booked for tumbling under a challenge from Aaron Ramsey. He got up to protest and grabbed referee Michael Oliver, who produced a second yellow card.

Di Maria is obviously still having difficulties adjusting to the PL and is frustrated with his lack of form lately (I'm sure the home invasion didn't help) but there's no excuse for him (and Januzaj) to dive and play for a penalty. But I think "grabbed referee Michael Oliver" is quite an exaggeration; it was the lightest if tugs on the official shirt to get his attention. Certainly a rule infraction but not warranting of a sending off in a cup tie. Both sides were playing a good match and although I thought Oliver's officiating was otherwise fine, this one decision ruined it. Disappointed by the outcome obviously but more so by the call that effectively decided the outcome in the 77th minute.
