Wenger to leave Arsenal after more than 21 years in charge

Jim, if they hand the job to Rodgers it will be a cost-cutting exercise and we would have been better off keeping Wenger. I could take Ancelotti but only short term with a view to having Vieira or Arteta learn under him. Allegri is the latest name today but he has to fancy a big move to Real or Chelsea. I think there are a few decent candidates - Jardim and Enrique, but Loew would make me very happy if he wanted a big change from national team management.

Sorry, Ancelotti and Rodgers as joint favourites followed by Vieira.

The bookies have Ancelotti as favourite for the Arsenal job followed by Vieira.

My bookie mate in the UK said William Hill’s has already taken a few sizable bets on Vieira.

Arsenal football club have plotted the course of my life. Disappointment with studies because I was travelling to away games age 15, keeping a group of close friends since my teens from going to watch the Arsenal, the end of my running career because I chose watching Arsenal instead.

Wenger produces mixed emotions because he should really have left around 8 or 9 years ago. He once led the premier league in terms of coaching, diet, scouting, but the league caught up and overtook years ago. The players Wenger acquired were outstanding - Vieira, Henry, Pires, Petit, Gilberto, Anelka, Fabregas, Van Persie, Nasri, Cole, Ramsey etc.

I would like everyone to give him the respect he finally deserves. His record is incredible - 3 league titles and 7 FA Cups including a Double. The invincible season and a Champions League final losing to Barcelona 2-1 with 10 men from the 1st half. There has been a lot of talk about Guardiola's style of play with City but Wenger was producing better football years ago with Cesc and Wilshere.

The next appointment will be key for Arsenal because this kind of transition can also go downhill. Monaco's Jardim for sure. Brendan Rogers oh no.

Re Wenger's 'mediocre last decade', he never had the cattle to compete for major trophies. The likes of Bellerin, Xhaka, Montreal or Coquelin, Flamini (and many more) before aren't/weren't world class.

Don't see him moving to Japan after the wc though.

Interesting, Japan could have him lead them out for this summer’s World Cup.

Despite a mediocre last decade though, Wenger is likely to have quite a lot of tempting offers I’d guess.

I hope Arsenal win the Europa League. He deserves to go out with a trophy.
