What a very lame ceremony! I am surprised to know this psy is still doing his "one-hit-wonder" circus acts. He is already a thing of the past! Why not use some traditional Korean song? Why kpop? I hope their ideas changes in the winter Olympics.

How do you say "one trick pony" in korean?

Been watching via TV the men's & women's soccer games featuring the Japan teams. Empty seats galore. And the empty seats up front at the opening ceremony were quite visible. I thought they had been reserved for the athletes to sit in later in the ceremony, but nope ... If they want to make money, they had better start filling up the stadiums.

In brief, the opening ceremony was rather ho-hum.

Otherwise, am looking forward to seeing some exciting events via TV during the games.

Good on the South Koreans for cheering on their brothers to the north. It's kind of sad to think what the North Korean athletes's might have been thinking during the festivities. Do they feel envious of the South Koreans, deprived or forsaken. But then again, they don't know any better. They've lived all their lives under an autocratic/oppressive government and isolated society. For them their way of life is the norm. For me this is terribly sad.

Oh yes ... forgot to add this in my previous comments ...

Those of you who watched the opening ceremony last night here in Japan ... did you notice how beautiful all the nation sign-carrying girls were? It was like watching a commercial for top-notch plastic surgery clinics. They were extremely beautiful. I kept wondering ... are these real Korean faces ... or did these girls have some kind of work done on their faces to make them so beautiful.

If they were pure Korean faces ... then ... like ... wow!! Great.

You think AKB wouldn't be up on stage if it were in Japan? No doubt Johnny's is already drooling over prospects for the 2020 Games. In any case, I agree that Korean traditional music would be ideal in promoting traditional culture, and certainly more interesting and better on the ears, but you can't deny that pop culture has a much faster, much broader impact on society these days, and Gangnam Style is still the most viewed YouTube video ever, and well recognized the world over (even a number of junior highschools in Japan this year are using it for their sports day dances!). As for him being a 'one hit wonder', I agree, and despite him classing himself as a 'rapper' I think he's far from it. He HAS done at least a few other songs, and even one alongside Snoop Dog, but they all suck. Anyway, I've no doubt they're also doing traditional music here and there, but it won't get near the media hype.

Anyway, hope the games are fun and some of the local hostilities in Asia can be overcome through sport.

I thought you supported South Korea criticizing Japan team's badge.

Plastic surgery is extremely common in South Korea, much more than in Japan. I understand that practically everyone who can
