In Medieval times the hammer was a war weapon. Looks like it still is. And as a former shot-putter, I've never understood why that thing is allowed in competitive sport.

That's so unsportsmanlike! Sports are thought to teach us to bear the pain (including the pain of loss) and a teamsmanship,, not the the animosity shown by this if this wasn't an accident.

Then you should know that of all the throwing events the shot put has by far the most accidents.
