Every country that gets the Olympics ends up with buyer’s remorse.

Two years ago, the state's then center-left Labor government had announced plans to expand the famous Gabba cricket ground and create a new 17,000-seat indoor stadium for the Games.

But Australian media, including Brisbane's Courier Mail, said plans for the revamped Gabba and new stadium were now expected to be scrapped.

Good. Leave the Gabba alone.

Otherwise it will go the way of WACA, once the bounciest cricket pitch in the world where touring teams used to face hell from Australian fast bowlers. But now not used for international cricket any more because of the bigger Optus stadium.

Sticky....agree...but Queensland , Brisbane and surrounds are sports mad competitive people so hopefully the infrastructure will have some continued utility post Olympics.

Isn't this breaking the agreement with the Olympic organizers?

Still time to strip Brisbane of the Olympics and give it to someone who is prepared and willing to pay for a proper show.

Clearly something that can be worked out over a bottle of Super Tuscan and some raviolis.

"Two people of Italian descent, you'd expect that," he said.

Paris did not.

Australia has held the summer Olympics twice, both times an outstanding success and better than any games held before either.

The last games in Paris have raised the bar but, once again the world will witness Australia at its best in Brisbane in 2032.

Australia is a long way for many to travel but we manage to make the trip worthwhile, put on a great games and show the world our hospitality is second to none.

Nearly half of the agreed venues are going to be changed. I imagine the other bidding cities (is Brisbane a city?) will be calling foul on the bidding process.

If it was not permitted by the Olympic charter to alter planed venues to make them more suitable and ensure sustainable post games use, then this clearly wouldn't be happening. So suck it up and enjoy the games in 2032.

I know the Australians love their sport and will do a great job

its just that so much can change between winning a bid and staging the games.

good luck to them. I’m sure it will be great
