I think most of the Chinese players have been knocked out already so it would be easy for China to discontinue coverage if they want to. But this was only done as there is one major Chinese sponsor of the event this year. Since it is now over 50% played they should have no contract issues for payments if the sponsor withdraws at the command of Beijing.

Having your cake and eating it too. It should have been allowed from the start but pressure from China still pervades in Australia at different levels. Their interference has become legendary.

It’s so sad and unfortunate about how she’s been treated by her own government. Really sad.

It seems a given that Craig Tiley will be searching for another job in the short term. He has expertise in not assuming responsibility so should find a suitable position in today's woke society.

Good the ban was overturned. I’m sure if it was another cause like ending apartheid, climate change or BLM it would be allowed so what is the difference?

I hope Craig Tilley goes and they find someone better to represent TA.

I'll bite, how is she being treated horribly? Literally nothing has happened to her.

How do you know this, as a fact?

Google  “residential surveillance at a designated location,” or RSDL, which allows the state to lock up people in “black jails” without trial. That's where she is - somewhere. The torture, I've read, is that no one knows where you are, and you have no idea when - or if - you will ever be released.

BTW, Fox Butterfield's "Alive in the Bitter Sea," invaluable for understanding what life under Zhongnanhai is like, is available free here: https://archive.org/stream/in.ernet.dli.2015.69158/2015.69158.China-Alive-In-The-Bitter-Sea_djvu.txt I lived in China in the mid '80s. Despite the skyscrapers, how little has changed is frightening.

Harry:

And how do you know something has happened to her? When you make accusations, it's up to you to prove them.

Burden of proof is on people making the claim, otherwise we sit here disproving everything under the sun all day.

Most excellent. Thanks to Navratilova.

An awareness of Chinese history and politics in the late 20th Century and into the 21st, would illume the gross intolerance for dissent within China. And the habitual and severe censure of those who speak freely and contrary to the wishes of the ruling junta. You would require evidence to the contrary, as regards Ms. Peng Shuai. To 'think' otherwise is beyond naive.

Exactly. If I said fairies existed, is it up to me to prove it, or do you need to disprove it?

Diolch.

Finally, good on the AO organizers, they developed some balls. And good on the people who support a proper investigation of Peng's claims

This is a human right issue

China needs to open a proper transparent investigation - that's the only way to prove one way or another

But up until now, there's no proper transparent investigation. Why is that so hard

I'll bite, how is she being treated horribly? Literally nothing has happened to her.

Exactly! Nothing's happened! There's no proper transparent investigation happening!

If you believe you got raped and your rape claim is not investigated, then wouldn't you feel your being treated horribly by the authorities

Burden of proof is on people making the claim, otherwise we sit here disproving everything under the sun all day.

How can she do that when she's being hidden away and there's no proper transparent investigation

Let her and her legal team freely do and participate in a proper transparent investigation

If a woman makes accusations of forced sexual abuse shouldn't it be taken very seriously until such time that it is proved false? Rather than, as some posters on here wish, the other way around?

Coming from such a dictatorship as China, a woman having the courage to accuse a former vice premier leads me to believe that this was genuine abuse.

What evidence would satisfy people that she isn't being coerced into silence? It's becoming an unfalsifiable conspiracy theory at this point. How many other women in Peng Shuai's shoes would jump into the media spotlight to answer uncomfortable questions about an affair with a married man twice her age? The number is close to zero. It's time to start respecting her privacy. If there's more to the story, maybe she'll decide to tell you about it later.

Time for sneaky, crooked and money hungry Craig Tiley to be shipped back to Africa.

Shame to see them cave on this issue, but I will admit that standing up to the force of western propaganda is a pretty tough sell for any organization. Ultimately not particularly surprising.

@stormcrow

The only people mistreating her are westerners using the poor woman for their propaganda, who can't even spell her name right on some of the shirts they were making (See: Where is "Peng Shua" shirts).

Their interference has become legendary.

Not nearly as legendary and blatant as USA. China is actually pretty awful at propaganda - they can't do it as well as western MSM.
