"Austria’s lone medal in the first four Alpine events, which it dominated at Turin four years ago by winning 14 of the 30 medals."

"Compounding the pressure on the Austrians was the success of the Americans, who now have seven Alpine medals in Vancouver—two better than their previous best mark of five at a single Winter Games."

The Americans have come of age, no doubt about it. This Olympics is being renamed "Vonncouver" as the American beauty is just smokin' the hill. What a joy this has been to watch. Being here in the US where people celebrate any medal winning performance- and not just the Gold like the chinese did during the summer games. Mancuso is a virtual star-yet she hasn't won gold yet- how refreshing !

I agree, its the enthusiasm and the genuine desire to do and be the very best they can be that sets true olympic athelets apart from the others that have just shown up for the games......
