A casual fan would not know that the Olympics have rarely had the best players available from Canada because they've taken place during the NHL regular season. This is why the USSR beat up on a bunch of University players for so long.

I presume the low wages paid in Japan have scared off all the North Americans.

MacKinnon is a great leader

They showed that they were for real in last season's playoffs and played like a team on a mission! Congrats to them and especially GM Joe Sakic one of my all time favorite players even if he did play for the Nordiques. They're a stacked team and if they get a true # 1 goaltender, they could win several more quickly.
