And Krejcikova was stellar in her post-match press conference!

Thanks to Naomi Osaka's withdrew..

Osaka was never that good on clay. Deal with it.

Same for Krejcikova, who spoke frankly about feeling overwhelmed by stress before facing 2017 U.S. Open champion Sloane Stephens in the fourth round. Krejcikova worried she wouldn’t win a game and was in tears until her sports psychologist talked her through it.

Mental aspect of the game at this level must be tremendous.

Good thing she didn't quit.

All people who compete professionally in a sport feel stress. That's why we competed (I compete as a professional), to get ourselves to the point to be in that stressful position to win.

That's the whole point of competing.

Congratulations to Grand Slam winner Barbora Krejcikova and to challenger and runner-up Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. Well played.

Kentarougaijin

yes, and?

Did she make Osaka withdraw? No?

Then okay, she was lucky and she made best of the circumstances. As Czech myself I am proud of her.

And btw there was no guarantee that Osaka would win anyway. She said herself that clay doesn't work for her yet...

All people who compete professionally in a sport feel stress.

Agree.

But I think amateurs who compete at a high level suffer far more stress

Now Krejcikova is the sixth consecutive first-time Grand Slam champion to collect the women's championship at Roland Garros

6th consecutive 1st-time GS winner - the French Open is pretty much a wildcard at this point; ya don't know who can win the whole thang

Krejcikova worried she wouldn’t win a game and was in tears until her sports psychologist talked her through it.

It's a wise decision having a psychologist to maintain a mental edge

The top players nowadays are so close, any slight edge could be the difference between winning and losing
