BG all the way......."Curling is coming home!"

I liked Yoshida Chinami's photo...very cool.

The Semi-final match against Switzerland was very exciting until the end...at it was a close match.

Congratulations Japan for reaching the Final for the 1st time in Olympic Games, after the Bronze in PyeongChang, South Korea, in 2018.

AP managed to write the entire story without mentioning one Japanese player. Ridiculous

I’ve always held the belief that curling isn’t athletic enough to be an Olympic sport and I would make fun of the polishing and hollering. However I’m starting to appreciate the technical aspects of it and how important a defensive move is. Lately I’ve found myself actually watching it and cheering for the Japanese women’s team. So you go girls!! Apologies for previous mind set. Maybe they could run some laps between games to add some athleticism

Japan did really well and revenged their loss against Switzerland!

Go Girls.

It’s no surprise no one’s listening to Bach, including the moderators of this thread.

“The IOC called an immediate meeting with organizers to remind them to keep politics out of the Beijing Olympics, president Thomas Bach said Friday” -

Yay.

Aren't they wonderful! I hope they win the gold for Japan!

4 ( +8 / -4 )

I’ve finally gone over to the other side. Even as a true Englishman, I’m hoping Japan win; first time I’ve felt like this in over thirty years living here.

Could certainly do without the hysteria on the TV, though….

I am rooting for the Japanese girls but also hoping the J-media and Matsuoka in particular don't enter into overdrive.

“Come round to my place to watch the curling”

From ‘Chat-up lines to Avoid’.

@Jim

Marginally better than “Let’s go to Goodison tonight. I’ve got a season ticket!” ; )

Happens all the time here in reverse.

May the best women's team win. May actually watch this final!

None of these women are girls, seems like the convention of 60+ yr old men defining these women as "girls" don't see that. May the best team win.

@iwantanata

Certainly grown women shouldn’t casually be called “girls”, it’s horrible.

But sports teams have always been called “girls” or “boys” by their fans; it’s a special case.

@Luca: Change is good. Ask women what they think of this linguistic habit. May the best team win.

Japan’s avenged their loss against Switzerland and the team is buzzing.

Yes. Boys, lads, girls is common in sport. I’ve heard these terms used by men and women to describe their players. Nothing sinister there.

Or at Goodison, ‘shower of s###e’ is a common term of endearment from supporters

I watched the swiss game, pretty much it looked liked they gave up half way through, low energy, lots of mistakes. Maybe the Swiss we into the game thinking they had already beaten Japan, Swiss was number 1 and it went to their heads? They fought back but a little too late. Hopefully they have their game faces on today for the bronze medal.

Marginally better than “Let’s go to Goodison tonight. I’ve got a season ticket!” ; )

But nowhere as near as good as, “Coventry are at home to Barnsley this weekend love, and I’ve got tickets!”

@Clippety

There’s romantic and there’s kinky. That’s just twisted….

I never liked curling until I saw this photograph. Now I love curling.

Wow, an article about women's curling out today in Japan that barely mentions the Japanese team. Well done! Other Japanese media will be giving them wall to wall coverage. Great performances by both teams to get to the final.

As a British man in Japan, I'm a little torn about the final, but probably want the Scots ladies to win simply because they're the underdogs, regular people with regular jobs. The Japanese team are essentially pro with pretend jobs at sponsors and all kinds of money behind them.

Ás British medals are pretty rare at the Olympics, I will be supporting GBR on, but good luck to the Japanese ladies too.

I live a genuinely competitive GBR Japan sporting fixture.

Curling is not exciting for me, so I will skip it.

None of these women are girls, seems like the convention of 60+ yr old men defining these women as "girls" don't see that. May the best team win.

In an interview with the BBC straight after the semi final the British skipper stated that "we are a five man team".

This adds a new layer to the debate about what to call them.

Gowan, the lassies from Hokkaido!

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Japan and GB fighting for crumbs.

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

Go girls ! May the best team win. As someone with British/Japanese roots, I'm a little torn.

Break a 頑張れ !

Go, Girls !!

So EXCITING watching this now LIVE (11am JST).

GBR 3, JPN 1

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

Big contrast between GBR skip Eve Muirhead’s commanding burr of “HARD!, HARD!”

and

Team Japan’s dulcet songs of “o, o, o, ok, ok,… ii yo!

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

“*Congratulations**!**”, Girls. GREAT BRITAIN's women's team have WON curling Gold at the Winter Olympics in brilliant fashion.***

GB dominated Japan in the final 10-3 to secure Britain's first curling Gold in 20 YEARS.

Well played by all these young ladies from both countries!
