Too bad, if true. She is a fantastic skater - once in a generation. It is quite possible that she doesn't know she's been doped by her trainers. That's what I want to believe. At 15, she doesn't have the ability to stand up to her coaches and trainers.

I don't think that all Russians dope, but it appears over 80% do, at least based on history and tests of their highest-ranked athletes. Too bad.

Worse perhaps than the sheer brazeness of Russian athlete doping is that in this case it is a minor who is being doped. She is 15 years old. What kinds of terrible people feed a minor drugs like this?

Yes they are. Hands down. They are the only nation that had to be banned for cheating because all of their athletes were doped. Russian = doping. It's a direct correlation. Same as humans breathe air, Russians take dope.

If they were handing out medals for doping, they'd get rid of the podium, and just grab any three Russian athletes from each competition. I suppose you could test them to see if any weren't doped, but that would be a waste of money, as there is no such thing as a non-doped Russia athlete.

Firstly, it's not even a PED. The Russian bob sledders who were banned for using it sued and ending up cutting a deal where they would only serve an 8 month suspension which they had already done because WADA wasn't confident of winning.

So if she were going to use a drug but not a PED, why the hell would choose that one other Russians have already been suspended for? This is rotten to the core and the Chinese know it. It's so rotten that one can't but suspect the Russians did it on purpose to cast a shadow of competitors.

I feel sorry for her if it does turn out that she took a banned substance based on the advice of a trusted figure such as a coach. That was what happened to Andrea Raducan, a young Romanian gymnast who won the women's all-around gymnastics gold at the Sydney 2000 games. She took a cold medication containing pseudoephedrine given to her by a coach and ended up losing her gold medal. Her Romanian teammate, Simona Amanai, ended up with the gold.

A lot of people seem to think that this was not intentional. International athletes know by now what is on the banned list. Kick her out and set an example that this will no longer be allowed.

Word around town is that her test just prior to arriving was negative but then positive after arriving. Rumour is someone spiked her drink or food. An American official is being investigated.

Could Kamila Valieva be complicit to the suggestion of willingly consuming a substance that enhances sporting performance.

If that cannot be proven, then the IOC could well be reviewing the possibility that Russia be again complicit to another state sponsored doping scandal.

The problem is you don't accidentally take trimetazidine, I highly doubt some 15 year old accidentally took it by accident like an aspirin. Her team doctors, trainers etc should know, it's not some unknown drug that caught everyone by surprise, other Olympians have served bans because of it so it's a known prohibited substance.

Trimetazidine wouldn't be of much benefit to a figure skater, long distance speed skater yes, figure skater...No. If they wanted to use it they could have easily gotten a T.U.E. The strangest part of this story is the sample was taken before the Euro championships a month ago.

And the "news" only broke when the athletes were lining up backstage before appearing for the medal ceremony - literally minutes before.

What it took all that time for the most sophisticated anti-doping agencies in the world to "get it right"???

Kamila may well be guilty or not, but the circumstances has "Hey, Hey, Hey - what's going on?" written all over it.

A banned substance is a banned substance, no matter how people spin it saying its not performance enhancing (though you could argue it gives that person an edge) the Russian Olympic out of ANY Olympic committee should know this more than any group.

The Russian athletes will never stop doping as long as it is pushed on them by their government. It's basically impossible for then to say no. They face too many consequences if they do.

By the way, if you haven't already, give Icarius a watch on Netflix. It's a documentary about the Russian doping scandal, it was really well made and griping.

Russia has been busted for doping so many times that they can’t even participate as Russia, but have to use the loophole facade of going as the ROC.

This is just endless. ROC should be disqualified and return those medals to the true athletes that are playing by the rules.

I have zero expertise in judging her field, but think based on what I have watched and read she is amazing at her craft.

Why aren't all samples tested before competition? Sure it costs money, but that's exactly what the IOC has plenty of. The reputational damage from scandals justifies the investment.

Trimetazidine is known to be of assistance in endurance training. If this athlete had an exemption, it would have been clearly documented.

Trimetazidine has been on the World Anti-Doping Agency's list since 2014.

Definitely seems questionable. MAYBE there is a legitimate medical need for it, and I am sure that is the line they will try to argue.

However, it is ultimately still banned and given that it is the same drug they had used before it definitely seems more likely to be a case of doping...again. Definitely seems to be the more obvious explanation by far.

Total shame, because her program was absolutely stellar otherwise.
