Wasn't bad, with the light show and technology, although a shadow of the greatest ceremony of all time: London's.

The opening ceremonies are the thing I enjoy the most about the Olympics. The vast majority of the sporting events, like the luge and the shotput, are dull as dishwater.

that's the Olympic spirit.

This article is well written.

China cracks down on Hong Kong, threatens the sovereignty of Taiwan and Tibet, perpetrated a mass incarceration and murder of its own Muslim population and unleashes a plague on the world that kills millions.

And the rest of the world sends their athletes here like nothing ever happened.

Oh! Forgot about the Opening Ceremonies. Oh well.

I was expecting more from Beijing’s opening, that was quite underwhelming. Tokyo’s opening was much more heartfelt and dramatic.

I am zero interested in these winter Olympics.

And I 100% agree with BroJob Biggs.

Bless the Hong Kong and Taiwan and Uyghur people.

Bless the Hong Kong and Taiwan and Uyghur people.

Yes. Along with the China-oppressed nation of Tibet.

@ Brojob Biggs - brilliantly stated.

@maddie_mastro (snowboard half pipe) is fun to follow on Tik Tok. Documents from inside the village in short clips.

I'm watching the opening ceremony and the message China is sending is "we are one family and one world".....Sorry but I can't stop laughing. One world, One China.

6 ( +14 / -8 )

leaders of the United States, Britain, Australia and Canada, among others, imposed a diplomatic boycott on these Games.

all those countries are the trouble makers not china

-13 ( +7 / -20 )

China, not surprisingly, put on a great show again. Good luck to all the athletes!

-5 ( +9 / -14 )

Don't give these clowns another Olympics or World Championships.

8 ( +15 / -7 )

opening ceremony was nice good luck China.

to all chinese haters-put political agenda beside since olympics are purely about sport!

The performance from the kids was wholesome.

@Eastman: We are not Chinese haters, just CCP haters. :)

14 ( +18 / -4 )

For the Government of China this Olympic spectacle is just another step up the ladder, or over the ever-increasing numbers of dissident bodies, or the justification of internment in concentration camps for religious Uyghur minority.

It is a clear official Olympic requirement for these Beijing Olympics to allow "press freedom".

Yet journalists, foreign correspondents are unable to freely travel around.

And are subject to harassment, with threats of violence.

These Beijing winter games is proof positive that "Olympics" has openly being used as a political weapon.

8 ( +11 / -3 )

Will not be watching any of the Olympics this time around.

7 ( +13 / -6 )

Enjoy the games..

GO JAPAN !!..

GO CHINA !!..

We are not Chinese haters, just CCP haters. :)

This is the CCP's MO. If you criticize or exposed the CCP for what they've done wrong they try and claim it is hating on the citizens that they themselves oppress, subvert, and try to control. Remember, the CCP claims that democracy is a "bad thing" because the CCP KNOWs they don't stand a chance keeping power if all the citizens of China could vote who gets positions of political leadership in the country. Party before country...

The US team has been ordered by political Democrats to be quiet and don’t do anything that might upset their CCP masters.

quite a difference from Tokyo where protests were encouraged and almost demanded.

-13 ( +1 / -14 )

Tldr, anybody can tell is which countries boycotted the Olympics?

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Anyway good luck to all participants, hopefully the quest for gold won't be lost by being unable to compete because of covid

Three decades after its troops crushed massive democracy demonstrations in Tiananmen Square, killing hundreds and perhaps thousands of Chinese,

The above should not be forgotten, I have vivid memories of watching live reporting on Japanese TV of Chinese military and security forces slaughtering individuals. Tiennamen Square should be kept in mind as China becomes even more dominant throughout the globe. After all, China has a long history of killing off its own people.

China's economic powers are a result in large part of the global corporations, private and state owned, that have profited from dealings with China. Global predatory capitalism benefits the 1% and puts all else at greater risk. Each time we breathe exhaust fumes and factory emissions remember some 1%er is getting richer, while those of us in the general public are putting our health at greater risk. Individuals can stop investing in corporations closely tied to China. And encourage their politicians to find ways to reduce the amount of fossil fuels burned.

Jen Psaki literally said this yesterday or the day before in the press room...

Yet journalists, foreign correspondents are unable to freely travel around.

indeed. covid was extremely convenient for these games to fit the ccp narrative - gotta stop the spread /s

boycotts are the issue. That's the West. It politicizes everything, including sports & music, to serve its purpose of containing other countries that refuse to live & abide by its rules.

Well done, Chine, and never let mosquitos disturb the powerful path of the dragon.

I have a dream that China, Japan & Russia will be in one trench someday.

Politics aside this was a really wonderful opening ceremony! It was miles better than the Tokyo Olympics opening ceremony! Also read some articles on the high quality beds for the athletes which even has remote control and touch panels. Specifically designed by a group of international experts to adjust to a persons body for proper sleep. Not those card box beds that Japan provided which made athletes body ache and tiresome! But these positive things will never be covered by the mainstream media especially in the US and Japan which are just anti-China !

The Beijiang Winter OLYMPICS 2022 is the most successful one ever, there reflected the mighty power of P.R.C.!

By the way, not many people has interest to witness: Kamala Harris or Prince Charles show up at the site, they were unwelcome!

Local Chinese actually aren't bad, it's just the Gov and it is the problem in every countries.

With Made in China products, all these years, many have survived depending on cheap clothes, items, food even in developed countries.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Disappointed everyone is even sending their athletes to this communist hole, after all that's happened..

Ther's nothing "wholseome" about kids singing in an autocracy.

Anybody seen this news? I’m looking forward to finding out more.

The poster is referring to Nancy Pelosi, who along with the Bidens, have business interests in China.

Pelosi gave a warning a) in the interest of protecting US athletes b) to not bite the hand that feeds her, depending on your views.

Sometimes posts are written based strictly on the poster's imagination

”ordered” might have been a bit too much but no it’s not the imagination.

It’s fair to point out to the US athletes the potential predicament one can get himself into. At the same time, Pelosi, similar to Japan, is playing both sides.

The children singing the hymn of Winter Olympics were not just "Wholesome" but a "Divine Voice", they representing the Chinese contribution to the world!

If someone has no compassion or just brutal racial reasons hating the singing Chinese children due to his/her prejudical political reasons, these people were very despicable!

I want to say thank you China, the bright and charming children here singing right here were the right people to manage the world when they were adults!

I don't think your comments will go over well with the many Hong Kong asylum seekers currently in my country and other western countries that took in as many as we could. Thank your government for destroying any truly positive "good will" intentions, because they lack the credibility to have anyone else in the world believe the CCP does anything without some sinister motives. China without the CCP would probably be a much better country and seen in a better light.

CCP propaganda pushers are seen for exactly what they are, fakes.

They have always competed in international sporting events as Chinese Taipei and has always carried the Chinese Taipei flag, this is nothing new. It is how they are recognized officially almost universally.
