Fantastic performance by him and great drama to do it with the final run of the contest.

Zero marks to the idiot at NHK who dumped his winning run, which will probably be the Japanese highlight of this Olympics, onto a sub-channel five seconds after it started just so they could show the news. They had to put a big graphic up telling people which button to press on their remote controller. We missed half of the run, and I bet loads of people missed it altogether. The ironic thing is that the main news for the rest of today will be "Hirano wins gold", something NHK couldn't be bothered to broadcast properly in real time.

Well said. It was ridiculous, but then again, it’s NHK...

...

Congratulations Ayumu. And a very emotional goodbye to the GOAT.

Hirano was great, but some judges were awful. Hirano said, "I was not satisfied with the second score. I was able to express that anger well at the end."

They should be permanently banned from this sport.

I’m thinking some Japanese people may even start to complain about having to pay their NHK fees after this kind of debacle:

NHK are horrific. Corrupt and inept.

Yup, fantastic!!! But I couldn’t believe it when the screen went blank. I’d been waiting for this moment all morning.

Then a voice came on explaining how to change channels to see the very thing that they were rudely blocking off. I did get the very end of his run, and then countless slow-motion replays, but that sublime moment was totally messed up. And it’s not the first time they’ve done this. There’ll be backlash somewhere behind the scenes.

So, NHK! Un. Be. Lievable…

And yet, strangely par for the course, totally off the wall.

Very well done to Hirano and to all those brave souls putting their lives on the line out there in the half pipe.

I must have been watching a different show. The channel change came up right before the run, and there was a warning beforehand. But I'm sincerely sorry you all missed it.

He stamped every landing, and looked like he could have done more but ran out of pipe. What a stunning couple of runs. Moment of the games for me, along with Zoi Sadowski-Synnott taking the gold in the slopestyle.

Well done Japan, one more gold !!..
