Good for Peace, Good for the Athletes, and good for dialog. Sports like music it has NO BORDERS.

That's true and there shouldn't be any.

Nancy Pelosi needs to worry more about the human-rights record in her own country and state. I'd say the government doing nothing about drug crime, poverty, lack of health care and discrimination against minorities in USA is human rights abuse too. Yes, we've all seen the inside of Nancy's beautiful mansion and her luxurious kitchen. Yes, she really cares.

Come on is anyone surprised?
These are basically professional athletes, some of the most self-centered people in society.
They may give a bit of lip service but when it comes to actual action, they will fold like a bad hand in a card game.
I have over the years been offered good money to do certain exhibitions in China that I knew were all for propaganda ( no other reason to be offering the amount of money they were).
Having some self respect I have always refused, because I never want to be used to help legitimize the ruling regime.
Could I have used that money? Oohh yes, at some points I could have really used even needed it.
Instead I took jobs in combini stacking shelves, I even worked repairing sewers.
This and these people are why I gave up watching professional sports/ the Olympics decades ago.

losers?
Yeah right. Haha

Whose notion?
People who are actually protesting wouldn't be there at all

Giving up Olympics for these athletes is giving up their lives. And it only comes once every 4 years. I'm not saying that all such athletes have no concience. But most would go even if people were being trucked to gas chambers in the host country.
plasticmonkey
perhaps, though I wouldn't go that far
however--top-level athletes are more often than not narcissistic and arrogant, insensitive to the plight of "weaker" people, eager to use nationalistic fervor in to their advantage, and hypocritically quick to disavow politics when it cuts against their favor
just remember, the Olympics is all politics. it's about power

Have ya seen Xi Jinping's wealth? While most of his country is still 3rd-world?
