IOC lost all credibility for supporting this whole event. And i still can't believe Sapporo actually want to do the next one. Has our politicians gone insane?

Boycott the genocide games.

Imprisonment of thousands of people to hold a sports meeting?

This event is going to be a disaster. Horrible conditions with no real snow, outright hostility from the hosts toward their many enemies, mandatory 21 day quarantines for the athletes stupid enough to go when they inevitably do test positive.

Boycott the Genocide Games and the IOC, athletes and companies that are enabling it.

It's actually un-welcoming to anyone for fear of covid ( except perhaps sponsor partners). Ironically this is how global boycott will be achieved :)

I suspect that covid has already intrude into Beijing as seeing spikes in Tianjin, a neighboring city well-connected to the capital.

For me they lost support when they insisted on holding the Tokyo games with Bach saying they would hold it unless Armageddon was upon us.

They've always been that way- or rather sociopaths who care about nothing at all except getting rich. They don't care about Japan, and they most certainly don't care about the Japanese people

Look the Games are going ahead whether we like it or not, so these precautions are necessary for everyone's safety

This will be no quasi bubble like the Tokyo Olympics with athletes and officials quasi quarantining.

So many questions.

What happens to those who test positive? Tent Hospitals internment camps, Deportation?

Will the numbers be released or subject to vetting by the powers to be in the name of the state?

And What happens to the rest of the passengers on that same flight who are obviously close contacts and surely could not just be let free in the bubble?

Will everyone get anal swabs as is the norm for everyone else returning to China?

The Sinophobia runs pretty deep in the comments.

But as the article makes clear, these Olympics are going to go ahead inside a strong bubble that both protects the majority of China from Covid the Olympic circus may bring in, and the Olympic circus from any Covid that may be in China.

PS, love the people who refuse to accept that by using the methods that rid the world of two viral diseases that were endemic, China has been able to keep eliminating Covid every time it gets a toehold. Like the antivaaxers and antiMaskers when the subject is Covid, when the subject is China, the Sinophobes head for an alternate reality.

@RichardPearce

People are unable to admit anything positive about China, because the propaganda machine is VERY good at what it does. People like things black/white, it is easy. It is why "but at what cost!?" needs to be appended to every positive story regarding China.

China is doing it as well as anyone can expect. If you are going to hold an event like this, these are exactly the kinds of precautions that need to be taken.

I am still a little bit disappointed in China going ahead with them though. I am supportive of a lot of Chinese policy normally, but think holding any major international events is premature and was really hoping China would be the country that would make a stand against the IOC.
