It isn't like any govt can move quickly to prevent normal citizens of a free country from visiting China. There's a point where each adult traveler has to be responsible for their own choices.

Minky??

Gee, that sure doesn't sound like an organization that just might have a tiny agenda already, huh? Nah, definitely a totally unbiased third party.
Nothing is going to happen to any athletes unless they do something really dumb like defacing public property. Where they will probably just get disqualified and kicked out, at worst. Nobody is going to risk an international incident over some athlete doing something dumb.

China has some serious confidence issues. The insecurity is clear to everyone in the world.
I hope people do speak out though, would be great to watch them sweat.

best time to upstage China

In China, there are no rights to free speech. It is a different country and athletes are guests. They need to behave like guests while there. Take lots of great photos, do their best, and enjoy the competitions.
When they return home, they will have some amazing stories to share and can share their political views AFTER leaving Chinese airspace. Just hold your tongue and your online posts for the time in China.
It isn't like most athletes are all that political, unless it directly impacts their lives.
With COVID and being locked down for the trip, it may seem like they aren't being treated fairly, but in Japan, there were COVID requirements too. China will probably be a little more strict, so don't break any beds there.
Fighto!
The Beijing Genocide Games will be pure politics, pure propaganda staged by the CCP.
Anyone who thinks the Communists have "separated politics and sport" are kidding themselves.
Boycott the Genocide Games.

Those idiots think their free speech "righs" are worth anything in China :) ! Hello!? In case you didn't know, USA or any other country's laws don't apply there, only Chinese laws. Those were public and well known at the time to decided to send athletes there, how it's to late to start demanding changes :) .

Where's Peng Shuai?!
Why would anybody want to go to China? It's too dangerous.

There is too much with athletes trying to voice their opinions at the Olympics and trying to promote their own political agenda. Basically, I don't care to hear their opinions and wish that when it came to voicing themselves, they would just shut up. They go to the Olympics to run, box, jump, swim, etc. Their opinions are meaningless, just upsetting. If we want opinions, we can look at the internet at anytime of the day and get millions of them.
Freedom of Speech??? Yeah right. When in Rome, do as the Romans do. China has given their warning. The US has no right to talk about Freedom of Speech when they themselves are shutting down anybody who doesn't go along with what they want to hear. Athletes will go to China, speak their mind, cry about human rights and freedom of speech all while they sit there in jail. I will be sitting here thinking good for them, they got what they deserve. When I go to Singapore, I don't chew Bubble Gum and when I go to Iran, I don't bring drugs.
The Olympics was first made to separate politics and sports. Even the worse enemies would join and leave all ill feelings aside during this time. Combining the two is just looking for trouble.

Social anxiety on full display from paranoid Chinese officials.

Boycott the genocide Olympics. My heart bleeds for the Uyghurs, the gentlest folk I have ever had the pleasure to meet, and whose thousands-year culture, one met by Alexander the Great and whose magnificent karez (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turpan_water_system) were among the worlds first irrigation, are seeing their existence systematically erased and their persons debased to being nothing more than dancing monkeys.
drlucifer
Exactly.
Humans talking about human rights.
Well, even chimps talk about chimps rights rather than forced to follow what the boss chimp wants.
Garthgoyle
...their sports stars' free speech rights... Ha!
Dude, they'll be in China. There's no free speech there. Better stay home if they're gonna go to do activists stuff. Otherwise, don't be crying later.

I thought the China Games were cancelled?! NO?
Hello Kitty 321
American athletes don’t have free speech rights in China. When you go abroad you have to conform to local laws, not try and impose those of your your homeland
sf2k
Should of just cancelled but money talks and human rights and lives don't matter. This is the real message of the Olympics back-to-back now

Exactly Fighto!
Instead of sounding an alarm, which is as useless as an anus on an elbow, the US should withdraw its athletes and staff in protest of Beijing's threats.
Fighto!
Some of us have been warning against athletes going to the Genocide Games for over a year now, but it has fallen on deaf ears.
Once any athlete shows any hint of free speech, for example wears a "Where's Peng Shui" tshirt, the Commies will come down on them like a ton of bricks.
And they won't be afforded much sympathy to be honest.
