This is an old propanda that didn't work. The population in Xinjiang has increased. Move on to Hong Kong and Taiwan Independence or Huawei, none of which has worked as well.
It's because the media in your country has multiple players. One says China is collapsing. The other says it is a threat to take over the world. So your citizens believes in a country that is collapsing can also take over the world. Go figure.
