I hope he recovers fully. I saw the hit while watching the game, and while it was a "hard" hit, it didnt seem overly violent nor excessive.
American football, by the nature of the game, is violent, and incidents like this are rare, but when they happen, particularly on national TV, it shocks everyone.
Again, I hope he recovers fully.

For someone who is supposed to be knowledgeable about the game and it's history, YES people have been through this before.
Darryl Stingley was paralyzed from the chest down after a vicious hit during a game back in the late 1970's, anyone who knows anything about American football will know this.
You may never have seen anything like it, but there have been numerous injuries and incidents in football over the years, and while players never talk about it, they all know they are potentially one hit away from it all ending for them.
Aikman should know better than to make a stupid comment like this!

It didn’t look like much at the time.
And in a league conditioned to think “head and spine”. Cardiac fibrillation may have slipped under the radar.
Hope he’s ok.
NFL made the right call to stop the game.

Maybe he was talking about the fact that he actually stands up before the collapse, which makes it even more shocking; also, most people can’t remember the last time an NFL game was suspended because of an injury; I mean, they were performing CPR, so right there you know that this is serious(!), and then the amount of time the game was stopped; after five minutes, you know something’s not right. From what I’m hearing, he’s not breathing on his own, but let’s wait for more details/press conference/official statements.

Wednesday is the latest this game can be played, and both teams play other opponents Sunday or Monday

I hope he recovers. Very upsetting

There's a really unfortunate trend for young male athletes in their 20-30s collapsing recently. Hopefully one day we'll be able to get to the bottom of this issue.

Aikman is referring to the fact that Hamlin was administered CPR on the field. I don't believe that has ever happened before. You're getting all excited over an innocent and accurate comment.

Thoughts and prayers are with him and his family. Entirely too young for this.

Couldn’t agree more. What an over action. My guess it was the vaccine.

Exactly; well said.
..
also,
smh…; the anti-vaccine crowd should calm down and make some research; this isn’t new; there were cases of sudden deaths in professional sports before, including professional athletes having heart attacks on the field/pitch. (I also follow football/soccer, so I know what I’m talking about…)

The brutal cumulative effect the game has on its participants (many struggle to lead a normal life after they retire due to things like repeated head trauma) has led to massive rule changes in recent years, most noticeably in relation to hitting the quarterback, after decades of sweeping the evidence under the carpet to protect the owners'/broadcasters' revenues.
virusrex
The epidemiological data refutes this claim, its incidence is not specially high in recent years.
Except of course as a consequence of covid, with cardiac problems as one of the complications it can cause.

(good news)
This just in
Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin is reportedly improving, with his vitals back to normal after he was taken to hospital. He has been put to sleep in order “to put a breathing tube down his throat.” Doctors are currently doing a number of tests to determine the severity of his condition.

(Note)
He had his heartbeat restored on the field… they did a pretty good job with him…; in these cases, time is everything.

I played one year of Junior High Football, I remember hitting one of my teammates on kick off practice and knocking him down, football players are going full speed all the time

Please. Junior football is nothing like the way it is played at the Pro Level.
